Hi Ake,

This is a very cool logo. We would appreciate it if you could try with a black background and a pink drink (play with the colors to make it more lively).

We also love the concept of the cocktail glass being the "Y" for Yo and the olive as the "O" in YO but It is still a little difficult to read.

Could you possibly try different options around this with different stylised cocktail glasses.

Thanks!

Wow, thanks. These new icons are really super fun.

If you wouldn't mind, we would love you to keep exploring more options around your entry #2 as there was something very clean about it. If you have any different ideas of how a bar should be represented, please go for it!

We were also wondering if you are open to taking a chance and be willing to test an icon approach that is very different . While we do want a very clean logo that can work on different backgrounds and contexts, our end goal is to produce an logo that works as an iPhone app icon too.

We have been going through www.dribbble.com and have spotted a number of cool app icon ideas but I am not sure if you have the time to test something like this for us, while keeping the text for YoBar clean:

Other stylizations that we like are:

Thanks again!

Hi Ake,

We've have been going through your portfolio online and we're very impressed with your work.

We've also been looking at a number of apps on our phones and we are thinking we need the logo YoBar to grow from a super cool icon even if it is not the cocktail glass. If you have apps on your phone, take a look at what you think works best.

We really would appreciate any time you have in coming up app icons ideas even if they are a little different (we are an creative team ourself so we appreciate out of the box thinking)?

Good luck!!

Hi Ake,

Thank you for all of your time and all of your fantastic and fun designs. We greatly appreciate it.

We were about to enter the second phase of the contest but I have been advised from a design colleague of mine to ask the current contestants to explore a few other ideas and extend the contest for another 24 hours due to the weekend. It seems that virtually everyone has followed our original designs idea of the Cocktail Glass. However this has not given us a good the spread of creative ideas that were hoping for from the brief.

If you are open to it, we would greatly appreciate an option other than the cocktail glass. Ideally, we would like Black and White (not grey scale) design as we need this will give us the flexibility that we require when tweaking the design.

Many thanks,

Rodney

Hi Ake,

A big Congats! You easily made it into our Top 5!! We hope that you are as excited as we are about working together.

Being that we have a short amount of time to work with you during this last phase, we just wanted to share some of our thoughts of what seem to be working best from the designs that we received. We have physically posted up all the designs we have received on a big wall and have asked quite a number of people in the team what they like and don't like.

This doesn't mean you need to agree with the feedback as we still don't want to limit your thinking.

In terms of your logo's, I know we have given you a lot of feedback already. We do feel that #2 and #32 is the strongest of your options. In general we like the fun energy of your logo but would like to see other versions of the icon and a couple of other options and fonts if possible. In terms of the cocktail glass, could you try a more flat looking glass and also see if you can make the Yobar text more readable even if you separate the icons/imagery from the YoBar text.

We would like to also see any other icons other than the cocktail glass, something neat and distinctive even if it is outside the Bar theme. In terms of #2, can you try that on a black background and see if you can make it more readable.

In general, here are some of their thoughts on the other logos. They were overwhelmed by the creativity of everyone. It seems like most of the people that we surveyed like the YoBar/Yobar in clear simple text. Some like the text in two colours and some liked it in one colour but all thought the text needed to be clear and readable as one word and not broken up with icon's etc. Also, many of the people thought that they text should not either be too formal but thought that it should be recognisable as a word and that we should try out more fonts and tweak the text to make it feel distinctive (so it should have distinctive but clean feel).

There was a big debate about using the cocktail glass. While everyone loves the idea of cocktails, there where strong and different feelings of whether the cocktail glass makes the service look too specific to a certain users taste and a little too female orientated and a bit pretentious. This is not to say people didn't love the cocktail icons.

From what came out, is that the icon and the logo need to complement each other but should be separate element. It seems that most of the people thought that the icon should be able to be used independently of the Yobar logo and should be able to work neatly together and the height of the icons/imagery should be only a small amount bigger than the text so that it could be neatly represented on one line.

In terms of the icon, the people surveyed like the concept of the cocktail, speech bubble, the Yo and something that can be interpreted as people chatting and having a great time (as this is a meeting environment with a lot of game elements). Also if you can do that logo so that it works in a 1 or 2 colours, that seems to get the best feedback.

If you have any questions or if you want to do a Skype call, I am available (ID: rodneykuhn). My time zone is GMT +2 so I am available any time day or night (assuming I am not sleeping).

Thanks,
