How would this look with a softer/ less stark font? And how would it look to stack the MEF vertically?

I really like this direction but I'm getting some feedback that it looks to stark and too unfriendly for an organization that raises money for students. Could you think about ways to make it not so hard edged? One thought was to change the M to an M with curved tops.

We like this direction. Can you try it with the MEF in a circle? Also a version adding the website MEFtoday.org
Also can we see it in reverse, keeping the three colors in the E but the other text in white on a (new) colored background that is not black.
