I couldn't see the old logo attachment to use same colors but of course that's easy to change. My idea is to have a strong and modern sporty symbol, with a ball icon that can be used for any sport since it's not tied to any specific sport but can represent a "sports" ball...
If it sounds promising, even after contest ends submissions are possible for the 1st ranked designer.

"football in the fall, basketball in the winter, baseball in the spring, soccer in the summer"?
