Mogeek, I like your thought process a lot. The components are dead on. Could you take it a step further? Clean, simple and bold is good and in addition to that, I am also looking for an illustration that would jump out instantly (in a pleasant way), It should be instantly likable, yet extremely noticeable. I think in this case the it would serve the illustration to be larger and the "Mass Energy Lab" font to be bolder. It might make people take notice AND fall in love with it, instantly : )
Also, I thought of this...Would you be able to use a large skyscraper like commercial building instead of the building blocks, please? The building blocks would definitely appeal to the residential/homeowner market and our market is commercial buildings...
another variation... clean, simple, and modern but most importantly conceptually relative... greens/blues play into energy savings, skyward building plays into the commercial demographic of the company, beaker integrated into the top portion of the building, showing elements coming together to form the whole of the beaker, playing into science/lab... so there is alot of conceptual meaning integrated into the logomark but overall still stays simple enough to hold onto its visual interest in one color... which is the calling card of a professional logo...
