The idea is to convey stability or strength. Straight lines parallel to the top form a (construction) like the letter (m).
I've also included red as per your directions, so the logo looks bolder and more masculine for a construction brand.
I've also applied it to a dark background and the logo works well on a dark background, of course also on a light background.
