Hi Magnita,

Nice start!

Diana and I don't immediately understand some of the shapes (#73, #59, and #55 as examples) and that's probably not good for our readers.

Maybe something different and better incorporated with the words?

I like the shape in #54 the best ... but think the name and tag line should take the lead and be incorporated in your next round of concepts and variations.

I hope this feedback is useful.

Great going! Keep 'em coming!

Best,

Mark

Still like the shape in #54 but the text needs to fold in somehow. Any ideas?

Just an idea of twisting the words "managing" and "waterway" and removing the "the"...:)

Some new and interesting ideas!

I think you're onto two concepts now ...

#130 is new and kind of neat. It will be fun to see where that takes us.

And I like the shape in #120 ... sort of a globe with a wave superimposed on it. I'd like to see that concept flushed out. Red and blue are kinds taken by Pepsi (#121) but if you work back with a globe, oceans, water, and wave concept ... that could be really interesting!

The globe shape could continue to standalone, or it could drop into a #119, or could even morph into a #122 as a continuous wave across the panel, but riding up and taking shape on the globe in the center?

Pretty cool.

Thanks again for all of your hard work. This is fun!

you are a design monster! lot's of interesting twists and turns!

i culled it down into three concepts:

i haven't given up on #122 yet. i think the type needs to be improved, maybe a warm orange variation on the red, and the "the" definitely needs to find a better home ... [smile]

in #144, i think we need a smoother integration of the white dividing line becoming the wave. also better typography overall. lastly, the wave should probably always break to the right for left-to-right languages like english. it's working better left-to-right in the other concepts.

i also like #137. let's try and find that "warmer orange" that could work in this blue and orange (or red) world of ours (water and sun?). the concept also needs to be more readable. i think closing up the white space (wave) between the lines a bit will help and allow you to show more of the N and G. that will also allow you to somehow make the wave a bit less abstract so everyone "gets it."

i hope this is helping!?

Dear Mark,

It's cool to be a design monster, I'm telling you - I can't
stop myself of working for you ;) Hope finally to
manage reaching the best concept and vision for your logo.
And your feedback is very, very helpful! Thank you!
Tomorrow I'll do my best to redone the entries
you liked and making them the way you see it.

Cheers,
magnita

hi magnita,

i'm not sure how the logo tournament messaging system works.

i typed in a post this morning on our main tournament page under contest discussion.

do all the designers participating AUTOMATICALLY get a copy of that post? or would each of you have to be checking the general discussion section yourself on-and-off?

just wondering ...

did you get the message?

thanks for helping me learn the ropes here!

The idea here is double:

You'll hate me for saying this but none of these are working for me. I think the waves are throwing me off completely. Too feminine or something. Maybe just overused in this business.

I think the squiggle wave graphic is too nebulous for our audience. Think concrete versus abstract reasoners. We're seeing a lot of waves in this tournament. Don't get me wrong, waves are good! But they are so common in the business that you'd need to do something REALLY uncommon (and incorporated?) in their use, if you know what I mean.

Maybe forget waves?

I know this is hard to keep pulling rabbits out of hats ... but I'm still looking for the simple horse in Dash, the rhino in Five Rhinos, and the dot in Dots!

Think standing out on signage at a trade show booth; readable (or at least intriguing) at ten feet, embroidered on a polo shirt; or instantly eye-catching and recognizable on a magnetic vehicle door sign or vinyl lettering on our boat ...

C'mon ... you can do it! [smile]

The wave thing is just not working. #317 is the closest but the wave itself is so overused and the wave through the name is too subtle or abstract. Don't get me wrong, you might be able to pull something out ... but it would be by going deeper into #317 and trying to make it special. Working that design hard and bringin it up several notches in creativity and professional type styling, etc.

Not by simply trying the wave in another place or as part of another design. Do you know what I mean?

And a life ring is too severe. We're not life savers here, only guides! [smile]

this post just went up ...

[clip]

Hi Folks,

I really don't know how this "ranking" and "not interested" metaphor is supposed to work.

But, unfortunately, I think it may mislead someone (and that someone could be you or me) into believing a concept is still alive if it's really not. That and Diana and I are trying not to hurt anyone's feelings. So we're probably leaving too much in the "ranked" column.

Remember, this is all new to us so please forgive our blundering.

Here's what I'd like to do and how you should interpret the next round of sorting:

1. If it's ranked, it's still alive and I assume you are working and improving that design along the lines of what we've either publicly or privately commented. I also assume you are generating new concepts because, so far, NO ONE IS WINNING. We are not satisfied with even the leaders (high rankings) ... otherwise we would have ended the contest earlier versus extending it. Make sense?

2. Otherwise, it's in the "not interested" column. Earlier, crcdesigns explained to me how to re-order everything at the end of the contest so as many people as possible get credits, and the leading designs all get ranked in the appropriate order (see above post). Never fear, I will absolutely do that at the END of the contest.

3. But for now anyway, the ranked entries are too clogged and they also aren't putting enough fire into either of us. Me, to drill down and focus on designs that could win the contest, and you to abandon concepts that shouldn't really be ranked and not competitive ... when bringing forth a new concept would serve you better.

So please do not be insulted when some concepts go quickly into the not interested column. Let's both communicate and focus on the potential winners!

And by the way, thanks once again everyone for all of the hard work and patience you're demonstrating,

So here goes ...

Best, Mark
