Here are some of my concepts. I've gone for something that's fairly clean and simple, yet striking. Creating an icon that works well within the logo or as a stand alone element, one that can be used for things like favicons or watermarks.
In both I've created an icon combining the "L" and "D" from the names, and in the centre included the 4 horizontal lines, bringing everything together, representing the two entities as a joint venture.
The logos are 100% vector so will scale well to any size, and works well in full colour, B&W and on coloured backgrounds if needed,

Very nice and extremely creative. Love the L and D icon. My only concern is that it is incorporating most of the DCI colors (maroon/grey) but doesn't have the Frank Lam Inc colors of blue or yellow/orange (in the little ball). Look on their website (see brief) and see if there is a way to incorporate those colors without looking "forced".
Other than that, it's very good and it's making a hard time for us to decide!

And here are a few variations. I've brought in the blue - what I've done is used it for the L in the icon but also the name. That way DCI uses the grey and marron and Frank Lam the blue.
From there I've incorporated the golden sphere. Personally the one I think works best is #40. The sphere almost signifies the joining of the two entities / bringing them together. And since a circle is limitless and keeps going its quite a strong representative.
