I tried to choose typefaces that are professional looking without being too formal or old fashioned, but that also have lines and curves that match up with the style of the lettermark. This helps to create a cohesive logo. I tried a few with your tagline as well.
One of the most important features of a logo is that it can communicate in just one color, so seeing it in all black before you make a selection is a good idea too. Once you've settled on a design, regardless if it's mine or not, you'll want to see it in black only before you commit.
Oh, I forgot to mention also that the components of the letters are also proofreader marks--the three lines for E or capitalization, the carat for insert, etc.
I know you said you were open to ideas that don't include typical editing imagery, but I had an idea to use the company initials KE to make a combination lettermark and the image of a pencil on paper.
