The structure of the honeycomb is one of the most perfect geometrical structures in nature. considering the 'community' of the hive and its function it is a perfect example with your name.
The orientation of the hexagon is often depicted horizontal and should be shown with 2 points at vertical position otherwise the honey would fall out of the structure. FYI it may not matter??
Let me know if there are any of the layouts that you would like rearranged or in different colors. It is interesting you don't want purple because the typical colors that many will use for the 'hive' is gold and yellows and their complimentary colors are violets and purples.

When we choose the contests we will enter it is based usually on our creative interests, as well, we take time to carefully read the CHs brief and descriptions to be as accurate as possible. I apologize Tere. this is my first time doing this, and learning the ropes. I like simple icons, whilst not being the complete focal point of the logo. I prefer lowercase text over uppercase, and I like the two tone variations between the words joe and hive.
I like the idea you did for the morten lund idea with the font type, weight and different coloration. Saying that, I also like the idea of having an icon, and then trying something that is like a signature. #138 is an original handscript if you like it or want to alter it more to the attachment sample I can take more time to do that.
These certainly take this in a different perspective...it adds an element 'playful' to the design.
