Here are some of my proposals. Instead of creating a separate icon / typography combination, I've created an all encompassing logo / unit - almost like a badge of sorts. One that can be used for additional elements just as watermarks etc
The logo is 100% vector so will scale well to any size, and works well in full colour, B&W and on coloured backgrounds if needed,
It would be my pleasure to work up any variations so please do say. I look forward to your comments or thoughts.
Hi Angus, Beautiful entries! I am so glad you have joined the contest. In entry 159/160 is the star at the top supposed to be implied? It looks good and I can spot the star if that is the case. If you can make it pop out more that would be nice to see. Also, the letter G in #159/160 drops down into the banner and almost is a cross between a lower case and upper case G in appearance. Perhaps the 3 letters could be raised a bit. Your designs do work beautifully in both color and gray scale! Another color or two could be attempted in Entry #157 unless that borders on getting too busy or detracts from your overall composition. I like monochromatic features as part of logo design. Your designs do look carefully thought out, so "tamper" if you don't mind. The element that looks like a road or stitching could be another color (maybe maroon or red). The part that looks like a sun could have a color change attempt as well (maybe the orange there and maroon where the banner is orange). I am so amazed with what I have in terms of options. Multiple designers responded to invitations and so many have communicated, edited and let their imaginations run wild. I am so impressed by this process!!!
Well firstly thanks for the invite! And secondly thanks for the great feedback and kind words, always appreciated! I'm glad your liking the process here at Logotournament :)
Would be my pleasure to work up some iterations for you ... And here they are!
Of course if you'd like to see any further ones, don't hesitate to ask.
Wow! Dizzying to soak all this in. Top slot for one of your new fantastic versions. Perhaps de-emphasizing the GRC a bit would enhance your design even further. Using the darker orange from entry 186 around a smaller GRC and a lighter orange "sun" border around the center darker orange would be intriguing to see. A version with hash marks as the "sun" border instead of triangular and just as short is another element I would like to see. Well done!!!
Thanks for the great ranking :-) Not a problem at all, will work on that for you ... Just one query - could you clarify what you mean by changing the sun triangles to hash marks?? Sorry want to make sure I get it right. To me hash marks are these: "#"
Sorry, not hash marks then... I guess it would have been easier to say sun beams as lines. I envision the lines of the sun beams all uniformly short, but I am open to seeing a version with extended sun beams. This is so much to process. I would guess that I brought this great problem to have upon myself with private invitations and lots of feedback! :)
What are your thoughts on the progression? I think the one I have top ranked and the next ranked version are both spot on. Your originals are so good to start with that I wonder what you think? I am also starting to wonder where this competition ranks in terms of intensity! What an unbelievable volume of quality work. Quantity and quality!!!
I think I have to agree, I prefer the currently ranked over the others, I think it's progressed nicely. I wasn't liking the double triangle stared suns - was getting to much. But currently there is a good balance. I also prefer the smaller initials - at first I wasn't sure but it has grown on me due to adding of the other elements, so the balance is better.
Glad your liking process here ... I have to say its nice to get a client like yourself, that gives great feedback, as it makes all the difference to us designers - it allows us to work and develop our ideas with you until your 100% happy.
It is an absolute blast. I could see Get Ready Coaching adding a design consultant element to the service mix!!! It is such a personal process that I don't know if that would work, but I would love a good excuse to come back to experience creation in action!
Do you think you might be able to incorporate a bullet-pointed tag line feature into this design? I am also pondering: Embrace Challenge+Seize Opportunity+Be Extraordinary Another option I have considered is: Prepare to Excel The second one is short, so I think it works quite easily. Can you also try a yellow color behind the sun beams in #192? Thank you!
Not a problem re those iterations ... Here are a couple of different ones. I've tried both additional tag lines. I've tried it under the main wording - and it fits quite neatly. And then for the longer version I tried it in the above section written around the GRC lettering, in the sunbeam area - which I think works a bit better as it leaves the lower area to focus on the name and the other tagline.
I will only go with one slogan. Shorter seems to fit better and you give great options for the lengthy one too. Blue radiating within the sun may work as a sky feel???
I still like the one I have in the top slot. I liked the longer beam option of #192, but it has a similar pattern feel of a paper plate that length. I like the blue "threaded" instead of beams, but I am glad you gave that option because it confirms that I like the road feeling that the threaded option gives. Thanks!
My wife sees the sun featured so prominently and thinks "organic food label" when she sees it. She is an elementary art teacher and not afraid to be brutally honest with her critique. The label with the sun is part of that image for her too. She agrees that less focus on GRC and more deep thought into conveying the message that my goal is to foster the greatness of others needs to come through. You are in the mix of the top 5, so feel free to submit something that fits this line of thinking. I have to say that I really like what you have done. The decision is mine ultimately. Thank you so much for your amazing works of art!!!
How about a spiral behind or in place of the GRC??? Perhaps transitioning the center of the sun (I want to keep the sun borders) into the spiral instead of solid orange. I am not sure if white will be best or another color for the spiral. Thanks!
Nice! Can you try the monochromatic option on #185 to reduce the number of design elements? Perhaps less will be more... The other thought I had is to alternate medium and short sun rays for the short-length sun rays and take out the layer with the triangular rays- again for another less is more look with the spiral. Let me know it this isn't clear. Thank you!
The white of the spiral could be light orange with the method used on #248. A concentric circle effect may also work nicely. It probably wouldn't show in the gray scale. Entry #250 is mesmerizing. Thanks for pushing the envelope!
Sorry for the delay, had to shoot out quickly ... And here are those variations!
To be honest, for me the monochromatic one is growing strongly on me, as it allows the details to be there without getting too busy with the colour. I still like the colour but that one is swaying it for me :)
I agree with the monochromatic instead of the white (#253 correct?), but I like the gray scale affect the occurs in #250. The gray scale of #256 would be better with a smaller center if the spiral is not visible. I think this could be achieved by making longer rays every other ray. The length of the current rays could be the short ones in between and the longer ones would be perhaps 2-3 times longer??? The spiral could lose the outermost expansion and be smaller overall. Thanks for continuing to work with it. I haven't gotten new input from others in awhile. The top 3 designs are incredibly close for me right now. You each bring something different that I really like. This process has consumed me for the last week! This has been a most unique and rewarding experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Its been my pleasure, thanks for a great project, regardless of the outcome!
Yeah I'm liking the gray scale versions as well ... I tried those changes to these two #257 and #258 I experimented with the rays, making them longer (and shorter).
Nice! What I was trying to communicate in this edit is that I would like to see a little more separation between rays. It looks like where the shorter rays are it is completely filled in. I like the length of the long rays from the darker orange of the sun and I like the length of the short rays that seem to make a lighter orange colored monochromatic ring around the spiral. I think that lighter orange band could be eliminated and that every other long ray could be reduced in length to half the length. I'll make a quick sketch... http://screencast.com/t/mwOc9fJJ9mV from what I see visually going on in the first third I drew on the left to the layout on the right... I like the design element of the very tight rays as I think this is quite unique. I just think the varying size (two lengths- so still uniform) might look better.
Great! Can you put a lighter (than the border) monochromatic blue to switch the white space to light blue in #260. The additional white space looks like a sunny side up egg a bit at first glance.
Super! At this point, I wonder how YOU would rank all of the versions??? Even with in just this design there are elements that I like in numerous versions. Awesome!
You are probably in bed at this time. I like what the new edit did for the design of the new #1 ranking. If you have anything left in the tank, for some reason your design still isn't grabbing the attention of my wife or others I have asked to rank for me. I think it fits me pretty well and I will decide based on best fit in the end. One thing that I did on my last run through and ranking was to look from the perspective of easy to see. The writing on your banner is difficult to see making it tough for business card size. Let me know if you want to make a bigger banner of some kind. If you have gone to sleep I can put you back into the top slot for a new submission. Thanks for all of your hard work and phenomenal works of art. So many have put in loads of effort to get this right for me. This is quite a hot seat! I will figure out what fits best.
It looks late again (Wimbledon showing at 6 am here reminds me of our time-zone) difference. I like several of the new latest versions over the recently top ranked design. I really like what I have in the top slot right now by a whisker over yours and the second ranked design. The three of you just went on all-out shoot for the extraordinary fest to bring me the best. I am forced to to pick only one though I have multiple winners. You are top-notch in the customer service department and I will recommend that future contest holders invite you! I will have friends and family go through the top picks another time and make a final decision very soon. Thank you so very much!!! I will mention you via a post here, Twitter, Facebook, Linked In and on my site when I get it up and running.
Thanks for the kinds words and offers of posting comments, its greatly appreciated! And I've very glad you've had a great experience here - its how it should be :) Good luck and all the best,
This experience consumed me for a week or so. I really appreciate all of your hard work, imagination, responsiveness to suggestions and excellent communication. It is time to move on to the other important steps of getting my business going, but I will put together a post to detail the great experience I had through the Logo Tournament.
Well firstly I'm glad you've had a great experience, that's what its all about! And thanks for being a very thorough and communicative client, and the kind words.
