Thank you for your response, and your recommendations. I only hope that I can improve next time.
Good luck, and thank you for your assistance, hard work, and creativity.
I understand your point of view and it makes sense (at least from a client`s perspective).
If I were you, in order to have a successful contest, I would do 2 things:
1. I would rise the prize money to at least 600 $. This would attract way more designers (including top illustrators) thus way more ideas and styles.
2. I would try to figure out what I really want. Of course it`s normal to experiment/ask for different ideas/revisions but, from the designers side, its frustrating to work and the client never be happy and asking for more an more revisions. It feels like I, as a designer, failed to please the client and it`s frustrating.
Best regards and good luck in finding the most suitable design for you.
Thanks for your comment. It is always good to take people's perspectives onboard.
As the event that we are planning to run would ideally appeal to both board gamers, and to role-players, these are two slightly different audiences. We had hoped that maybe the use of cards and dice in the logo would convey this, but the designs that implemented cards did not seem like the styles that we liked. However, the dice seemed better. For this reason we did not want to isolate board gamers, so we thought that the introduction of a meeple (a common board game item) would be a good idea. I tried to encourage people to use these designs in simple yet professional ways, without stating exactly the design style they should use, as we do not know exactly the design style we are looking for. Hence the reason that we have decided to pay for people to provide designs through this medium. So when we have been asked exactly what we are looking for, the sad reality is that we do not know. Some designs have appeared to be too busy, and perhaps there were other aspects of the design that were not ideal.
I feel I asked people for the most part to introduce meeples and dice without defining placement. However, most designers chose of their own accord to put the meeple in the A position, and the dice in the O position. This I can understand as they are a natural fit. However, I was hoping to see great artistic variation. It ended up that a lot of the designs converged. This could be my fault as you allude to, and for this I am sorry, as I hoped to see lots of different styles. It is not in my interest to pay money for a singular design from multiple designers. If you can offer advice on what I could have said to encourage you or the other designers to have come up with lots of highly original designs that use meeples, cards, and dice, your input would be appreciated. If I do use this again, it would be good not to make the same mistake. :)
i am still open to alternative designs now, so any thoughts or opinions on how I an encourage that are appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance in your designs.
In my entry #69, I made the meeple raising victoriously the dice above the head. You didn`t like it so much.
Also, when I made #61, you found it too complex and you said:
"My colleague prefers a simpler design, "
I`m surprised that you find my design #61 too complex but the reference (revolution) design acceptable.
With all due respect, I`m afraid that if I`ll do a design in the style of the reference, I`ll waste my time.
Also, you guided me, raymer, MightyBeaver and rogerson to make similar designs (meeple instead of "A" and dice instead of "O"). This is counter-productive and you ended up having a dozen similar designs.
I just wondered, in the brief that we created there is a logo that is like a revolution, showing revolution pops. We like this style, but is there anything similar to that type of styling that you could do, or is this not really your design style?
Thank you for the submission.
There feels to be something missing with the design style, but we are not able to determine what it is.
I will try and look around to see a possible alternative styling method.
Thank you for your time, effort, and creativity.
Thank you for the design alterations.
Adding a face to the meeple feels a lot less professional to us.
The six sided die is a possible alternative. Thank you for providing that option. We think that the twenty sided dice is better for the audience that we are attempting too target.
Thank you for the design alterations.
We feel that having numbers on the die works better.
Can the meeple be reduced to the height of the surrounding characters? is it possible to make the head less prominent? Similar to alternative meeple designs?
Thank you for your time.
Thank you for this update.
Is there anyway of making the die and the meeple a similar level of detail, by either simplifying the die, or making the meeple more ornate/detailed?
We really appreciate your time and effort.
Thank you for this.
The font style is good. Would it be possible to see the slogan the same length as the GamesCon text?
Can the meeple and die be moved into the text in some way?
Your time is appreciated.
Thank you for this submission.
The font style is very clear, would it be possible to go with something more substantial? The simpler style is better.
The large logo design seems to now be too much.
Is it possible to incorporate the meeple and die into the text, or something similar?
I think simple, professional, and fun would be fantastic.
The colour use seems good.
We really appreciate your time and creativity.
Thank you for the submissions.
I think that they design is really great and creative.
On reflection this style feels more like a stamp or a medal that would be good for an event prize, rather than the event logo itself.
My colleague prefers a simpler design, similar to your earlier design which shows as number 58.
I am sorry for using up your time, and the designs are great. I think that there is an overall desire for simplicity.
Thanks for your comments.
Perhaps you may be able to develop something fun using an image of a meeple (please do a Google image search), with a 20 sided die?
We understand that you are not able to see other designer's work, and thank you for the clarification.
We really appreciate your time and imagination.
Can you tell me what alternative image can I use and, also, is specific to your business? (other than dice and cards?)
Thanks.
PS: I hope you are aware that your contest is in "Blind Phase" now, meaning that you`re the only one who can see all the entries submitted to your contest. We, the designers, can see only our own work (and not the others). Any similarity to an already submitted entry is pure coincidence.
Thanks for this design.
We like this style, but unfortunately another designer has produced something which is virtually a mirror image. We feel that asking you to modify this particular design, would be too close to the other designers work, and would possibly be a waste of your time.
The die is very well presented and the feel is good. I only feel that it would be better to pursue an alternative style.
Thank you for this style submission.
Thank you for this design. This is quite a different style to other designs that we have seen. We like the outer border and the text being put on border. The colours also seem to work well. We are not so sure on the dice inside. Can you think of any alternatives to the current dice image in the central circle, or ways to make the inside more engaging, and more of a unique logo?
Sorry if that is quite a lot to ask.
Thank you again for this creative design.
Thank you for the update. The images are very attractive, and they look awesome. However, on viewing it is not really the design that we are looking for. The text is good, but is there anyway to incorporate the dice into the text, or to have some other alteration to the design?
Thank you so much for your time and creativity.
Thank you for taking the time to create alterations.
Is it possible to modify the closer of the six sided dice with a twenty sided die?
Please do not hesitate to ask if anything is unclear.
Thank you for the submission.
Very colourful and we like that. :)
Overall though we are not sure on the style of this.
We really appreciate your time and effort.
Thank you for your submission.
The logo looks quite busy, and we think we are looking for something simpler. Not sure that the OUR VICE of the slogan needs to be capitalised, but perhaps there is a styling reason to do that? Would there be a chance to make some variations of this design taking into account the comments above?
Thank you so much for your time.
