Here are some new designs without the orange gradient. I've just gone with gray, as that was in your list of colors, and it will allow you to focus on the design more (color can always change later). I'm hoping you can give me a better idea of what you mean by "professional-looking, slick, and modern." It's great that you're providing feedback, but these are all subjective characteristics. What I think looks modern may look old-fashioned or dull or too simple to you.
If you haven't already, you might find it beneficial to look through the community portfolio and pick out some logos that you feel have the look you're going for:
https://logotournament.com/portfolio. This will benefit you and all designers in the contest.
Also, a word of advice: You've specified wordmark and web 2.0 in your brief. If designers follow the brief, you won't get any graphics associated with the logotype. I just want to make sure that's what you want. Also, web 2.0 tells designers you're interested in gradients, shine, and other glossy effects. But I'm getting the impression you don't want any gradients.
Again, thanks for the feedback, and please keep it coming. It's the only way you'll walk away with a logo you'll love!
