I know this is a compact graphic so my suggestion may not be possible, but I was wondering if the "s" could appear to thread through the letter "o"?
So where the "s" touches at the top of the "o", there would be a cut in the letter "o" on either side of the "s". I guess the cut would be the background color and then the "s" proceeds through the top of the "o".
At the bottom of the "o", the "s" would stop just before touching the "o" and allow some of the background color to show on the curve of the "o". Then the "s" would resume on the outside of the "o", again not touching it so the "s" appears to be threaded through the "o".
