Thanks for the ranking. Any thoughts on changes? Is there a particular car you would rather see? I went with a fastback because of the iconic lines. These types of contests are what what some of us really enjoy. It's good that you have the designer Issues in the contest, we talk cars all the time. He's a good guy and we egg each other on to outdo ourselves even helping each other out all the time. Please review my portfolio and see if there is a style you'd like me to try. Also check out Issues portfolio, and let him know if there is one of his styles you want him to try. I look forward to any feedback or suggestion you may have.
I like the fastback , I'll check out your portfolios when I get more time also. I also like the lime gold color from '06 Mustangs, but it's hard to really see it in photos. I also like the Front view with the Cobra, the same with a '68-9 Mutang or '69 Fairlane Cobra might be good. I haven't decided if I like the ring around the car in #17 better than without it. Maybe something to make it look like the car is speeding along?
I have several references photos of my own, from car shows. We are not allowed to use outside references since it would be a copyright violation. Additionally since we transfer full right over to the client, there can't be any use of stock photos, clipart or royalty free photos, since the contract state that you (the client) will then become the owner with full license rights and you would not be able to own right to a photo or artwork that is already owned by others. Hope that made sense. :)
Anyway, I got you covered, I have tons of car photos which belong to me and if ever do not have a photo of a car particular year/model, I can turn almost any other model and draw in the one you want.
I'll upload shortly. I tend to upload toward the end more, because sometimes the contest just become about copying rather than giving the client new ideas. If there is a particular design, you like, we ask that you ask that designer to make the changes you'd like to see. Otherwise, the contest goes out of control and others, the Logocourts start (that's were we resolve disputes and losing designer gets booted out of the contest along with their designs.) It also can completely disrupt a contest and end in an unhappy client. Please help us by discouraging rampant copying. :)
#58 and similar. Looking closer, I'm not sure it had a scoop. I first thought it had a rear-facing cowl induction scoop, but maybe it's just the hood line. I'm using my smartphone right now which makes it a bit harder.
I wonder if a road lane or something could be added without looking strange.
I think I may need to re-do the artwork I feel I was targeting the wrong crowd. I was going more for the high end car enthusiast trying to get out every bit of HP possible (mainly the street legal components). Do you have a website, I can see and get a better feel for your niche market? Are these products mainly for competition?
I'm just starting out, I don't have a website yet. I'll be making and selling performance upgrades and comfort upgrades on classic cars like '60's Mustangs.
I like both #13 and #65, but would like them better with some other cars as I mentioned previously. Also possibly some different text styles and/or colors on #13.
Thanks for the feedback. I usually charge much more for full on illustrations because of the time involved. In fact I usually reserve them for the $400+ contests :)
I could change the car out later but since there is no uncertainty of a win, I am hesitant for now. As for the Corvette, I only added it to discourage the last minute ninjas that might throw in a copied design. I mentioned to Issues that I was going to help out by adding my own decoy. I knew that a Ford muscle guy would never go for a newer Chevy. (Don't worry, had it ranked, I wouldn't have pulled it, that would have not been fair, anyway, it didn't so it's a moot point.)
I see that the #17 ranked higher than the other two. Personally as a "logo" I think it was the better choice of the one's I put up. It looks more like a true logo and can easily be used in any medium as well as being more appropriate to the demographics. Even good the black and white line-art version for faxes, checks... I believe that the choice is already been made (nice too) so, let me know if I should continue. The only thing I think I might tried a bit different on #17 is the oval, maybe the road as you suggested earlier or more swooshy. It had not occurred to me until my kid brought it up. Toys-R-Us sells a brand called Fast Lane and it also encircled. Not a big deal, but thought it funny that it was the first thing he said. :)
I agree, #17 would be versatile which is good. #13 with a Mustang front grille and maybe different lettering would be cool too I think. I definitely can't say if it would be the #1 choice, I'm still trying to decide amongst the choices and it's not an easy choice. I understand that you probably can't put the same level of effort into this contest as the higher value ones, I appreciate all of the designs people make.
Thanks James. The quality is still the same (don't want you to think it's a lesser quality), it's the technical aspect that becomes very time consuming. To give you an extreme analogy imagine if I bring a 69 Mach 1, and ask to try both a Boss 302 and a 428 in the car, to see how it affects actual performance. It would be best to show the work you done and explain the difference and lastly reassure the client that either one can be done. But to actually do it knowing that only one will be chosen and it may be from a different shop, would make anyone a bit wary... OK maybe too extreme. LOL
Anyway, the other issue I have is that the Cobra in #13 contains quite a bit of gradient meshes. Usually when someone request these type of illustration they are in the higher priced contest. If they are dishing out for the $487 contests ($600 with Logotournament's fee) then they are usually fine with a complex file and subsequent higher printing cost and limitations with signage, t-shirts...
I will put the other entries back in in case you want me make any changes, no need to bother ranking the one's you don't like just leave them unranked. There's only 3 horses in this race, and one I know very well. He's pretty cool guy sometimes and he learns pretty fast ( just kidding Issues :D ) He'll be reading this after the contest is over - these comments all become public after the contest ends.
Thanks Marcelo, I totally understand what you're saying. I've also been very impressed with the designs I've gotten on this tournament, great value for sure.
I really like the blue color on #60, and also the green on #59. I like the hash marks.. I also prefer the oval to the gear on #60. I think I like the outline on #62 also. The Torino outline doesn't look as good as I had hoped, the Mustang just has a smoother profile.
Here's what I think: 1) color, car, and lettering from #59, the oval swoop instead of the gear 2) same as above with color from #59 3)
After more time studying the designs, here is what I think would look best, slight change from the last comment: #60, but with the oval instead of the gear, keep the "Innovations, LLC" the same color it is in #60, but give it the streaks behind the letters like #61.
I'm open to other ideas if you want to upload them, but that is the best design I can imagine for your entries.
I went ahead and did the request from both comments. (At least I think, I got them right.) Let me know if there's anything else or if I missed anything.
