Thank you for sharing your time and talent. I checked out your portfolio and your work is quite creative.
A spot-on "Everyone is Welcome!" logo could become iconic (think "Smile" logo) if promoted well and adopted widely. Helping to end discrimination is a passion of mine.
Your entry #45 with the birds is very, very smart. The birds depict the differences in people. I see how the birds are of diverse sizes and shapes and even color (the most different) yet they are all on the same line. They appear to be gazing at each other, too.
I do want to make a couple of comments about #45.
This logo may be used on websites and could end up being very small (like Facebook, Twitter, etc. icons), perhaps .33 inch or so. With this in mind do you think the logo would work with five birds?
I also don't want users of the logo to have much of a cost if they reproduce it on paper (menus, advertising, annual reports, etc) due to the number of colors. But I absolutely see the value of one or more of the birds having color to accentuate the difference.
I wonder how the logo would look if one bird was an outlined with some internal shading to illustrate dimension? Would show more diversity or perhaps that mess it up?
Maybe showing more differences in the birds, possibly accentuated by size, girth, species, would help to depict the diversity?
The bottom line you used is good, but the top line may not be at all necessary.
Concerning Entry #43, the hands look like they depict an asterisk and appear somewhat industrial. Color and shape is a concern too.
I intend to trademark the logo I select in the USA and South America, EU, Asia and Australia.
Here's a change-up. What if the birds were in the primary colors, to highlight diversity beyond size and shape? Green, blue, yellow red?
Have them standing on a black line, like you have depicted is illustrative of the "place" where they are seeking to buy goods and services; that "Everyone Is Welcome" to be on the wire.
happy to make any changes... hope this matches what you envision. I was trying other ways to show diversity without adding a gradient that complicates printing on merchandise.
I have shown the logo #45 and #75 to several people. They think it is cool, but they are not making a connection that the "line" represents the welcoming merchant business. They see it as birds hanging out.
I wonder if it might be easier for people to understand if the wire was actually a tree branch? The branch is welcoming a very diverse group of birds.
Have you had time to think about adding more diversity to the birds on the branch? I made a few comments about that in the email I sent to you: "April 6th, 2015, 11:22am."
Your talent is really on display here. Thank your for identifying with my mission.
Wow, you are full of good ideas. Concept #81 is really nice looking.
Is it possible to make the birds more prominent so they are easier to see? Perhaps if the colors are more intense the birds will stand out?
#75 and #81 would make great artwork on t-shirts!
My concern with #81 is that If the logo is very small, like the typical size of a Facebook or Twitter icon on a website, or perhaps a small logo on the bottom of a restaurant menu or flyer, it would be hard to see the birds and words. Difficult for the average person to understand its message on first glance.
Have you given some thought to making the line in #45 and #75 a tree branch? The birds are bigger and hopefully, people will understand that the branch is an expression of where they are (business) and the branch is happy to have them there.
might have time tonight to work on this more... intense colors can be problematic for some applications. if you look at the pantone color charts you can pick colors you think would be good: http://www.cal-print.com/InkColorChart.htm
the spiral with a welcoming hand. and the dragonfly with colors of diversity... check the symbolism of the dragonfly... it has many of the characteristics that exemplify inclusivity.
The Welcome Mat, #114, is very creative too. It tells a story that is important. But it would be a better post card. Perhaps the "Tree," "Wire," and "Welcome Mat" would make for terrific collateral materials that help back up the small "Everyone Is Welcome" logo used by businesses. These three and also your "Branch" logo looks wonderful.
I think #121 and #123 are going to be hard to read if made any smaller.
The "Okay" logo, #134, has some strong potential. It says, "Ha, this place is okay." Perhaps that can be developed more without copy and tweaked a bit to relate more to my concept?
I do like your "Dragonfly, #132, but I am not making the strong connection that you referenced. It is interesting.
The "Swirl" logo is also more challenging to relate to my cause.
Perhaps something like an animal or insect may be a good symbolic character, as well. Just like sending a message via Twitter is a Tweet, and a bird makes a tweet-like sound, I wonder if there is an animal or insect, etc. that makes a sound that others can connect to the concept of "Everyone Is Welcome!"
With all respect, I am going to move a few of your concepts. I hope you don't take offense.
no offense but I am having a very busy week at BusinessBuilders (the promotion company I own) so probably can't do much more for a bit on the concepts. I do want to assure you that any of my logos can be adapted to a small bug logo in some way.
Regarding #132, can you show the dragonfly with no wording and perhaps a slightly shorter tail? I like it's angle of flight. It's growing on me and seems unique in terms of color, etc.
I've given the "okay" symbol more thought and have come to the conclusion that "okay" can be viewed differently from the business owner and the potential customer. To a business it might be saying I'm "okay" with serving everyone and that doesn't evoke much passion. From the customer's perspective, the "okay" might mean that the business serves everyone; like it is okay to support. But because the logo is on the business owner's site, the "okay" logo might be okay but not great.
great... did you look up all the symbolism of the dragon fly? Every culture has put significance to it as a symbol. It could lend itself to a good story about inclusiveness.
Regarding #143, what if the object was a butterfly instead of a dragonfly, with enough colors to illustrate diversity? Most everyone likes/loves butterflies and many marvel at their vivid and distinct colors (diversity), and see their differences as "beauty/attractive/appealing?"
Also, I see that you trimmed the tree a bit on #144. It's easier to see the birds. But should each blanch have at least one leaf? Do you like #144 more than #81?
Thanks for taking so much time on my concept. It's exhausting.
I agree that the birds are best. They look so great. The birds and other larger form concepts would possibly be great to use on posters, post cards, etc. I really truly like it. Wow! My colleague at work also finds the "tree" logo especially spot on.
good feedback... really hope I can help with your project...
There is another contest on LT that you should collaborate with ... MayDay... I told them about you too. You have similar objectives and might be able to get some good strategy / PR ideas from each other.
I could not agree more. It is a bit hard to do this over the Internet.
I truly love #365. My worry is that if may be too hard to decipher as a very small logo.
In #364 the wire not looks a bit too rough on the feet of the birds. Something in between the line and the wire in #364 may be better? The birds on the wire concept is fantastic, too.
If selected we will give you versions that will work at different sizes and for different applications. But you have to decide first ... I appreciate your ranking as we do get "points" for top 10 ranks.
Note I am away from 4/15 - 23 on holiday so may not respond as quickly at that time.
It should come as no surprise that I have pick you as one of my top five designers.
I love the birds and the places where they are are emblematic of the places that welcome them.
My concern is that the logo needs to look good even if very small in size.
I like the "Tree," "Wire," and "Tree Limb" logos in that order. The "Shoes" logo probably needs more types of shoes to reflect more diversity. But "Tree" and "Wire" are very close in terms of awesomeness.
Can anything be done to plus these images? In previous messages I have asked if the "wire" can have some texture, so it doesn't simply look like a line, but the amended concept made the wire look a bit too coarse. One friend called it barbed-wire-like. Are the birds, in terms of their shapes and sizes, distinct enough to show diversity at first glance?
I will add "Everyone Is Welcome" to my logo in various languages later, so please remove the words.
While I like the colors you have chosen, on a practical note, it may be important to have the logo in black and shades of black and white? Not every business that displays the logo will have a budget for color printing.
I must also be able to trademark the logo in the USA and EU. So, please ensure that your design is unique enough to pass the test of government regulators.
Thank you for embracing my cause: Everyone Is Welcome.
Thanks for sending another concept. It's not really what I am hoping for. The upper case "E" is not that compelling, in my opinion.
Can you resend the "Tree" and "Wire" with no words, please?
Do you see any way to take part of Tree or Wire and adapt it so it is very easy to understand if very small? Perhaps if people click on the icon it can expand to the the full Tree or Wire?
I live in Orlando and am bootstrapping this project. I run a non-profit charity. And during a past career, I was a television news reporter and worked in media for about 15 years.
It would be nice to work with you on this project.
