#27 This is fabulous! So simple and clever. Is this just conceptual or final art?
Thank you.

#27 Great!! I love that the hen is calling out and that she has red wattles and a yellow beak.

I wonder whether people will know that the legs are two 'Ls'. And if there is a way, (which there might not be), to incorporate a capital S for Shell, I'd like that better.

Logo Designer
made the S a capital... made the legs a bit thicker... I really like the rough lines as if it is a sketch... but if you want to see it with smooth lines I can try a version like that... I tend not to do "realistic" or "cartoon" but more impression style.

I prefer the impression style, too. Thicker legs help.

Is there a way to convey my red barn chicken coop and still stay simple?

Thank you for your attention.

and what am I supposed to do with the designs after you folks have updated them-- move them to the no pile or move them to the end? Thanks.

Logo Designer
I will see if I can add the barn but I thought simple is better...
it is your contest... you can arrange as you please... just note while there is only one winner, the top 10 designers do get credit in the form of points toward ranking on the site...

Would you try a friendlier font and color?

Thanks.

I'm finding from input from my friends that we want to the Primitive Art style, and your design is closest to this!

Logo Designer
please tell me specific colors and if you want a specific font style to see... happy to make adjustments.

Logo Designer
another style more "primitive" like

#56 HA!! Fun, but a trifle too primitive or stylized. American Primitive is also like folk art, I guess. Here is a link to a photo I really like: http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=992949

The cow is kind of like your first chicken's shape and the second chicken's color.

I like the brighter colors. Could you try vegetable green for the words? Also, I think the hen legs are more clear as letters when they are the same color as the font.

That said, I'm going to have to rely on others' opinions on this, as I'm getting confused. So hang tight.

okay I will try some options... have a crazy day at work with some rush orders ... may not get to this until later tonight...

I've now read the descriptions on the phases and see that all is well and I still have several days to tweak-- so no rush. Thanks for your interest, ideas and responsiveness.

O M G!!!! #85 is KILLER Cute!!

I love everything about it. We had been trying to figure out how to make sure the legs looked like the "Ls" in eggShell. Perhaps by using the actual font and putting feet on, which I think is what you did?

Now, I will have to decide whether I like the subtle design you first did, or this other one. The green underline is a nice touch of green without being overwhelming.

Logo Designer
here the feet are a different color so maybe it is better defined?

Actually, just moving the font in front of the hen made all the difference.

The more I stare at them, the more the new chicken is looking like a cartoon. That is what I like about your first chicken. I say chicken because he is more like a rooster than hen because of his bent tail feathers. Hens don't have long feathers that bend down. I think it is the tail and wing.

But I absolutely LOVE polka dots and that mustard yellow in this context. And I like this new font because the letters aren't cropped.

Hi. The feedback I'm getting is that they love your hen, but that I'm in the business of selling coops. It is for that reason that I'm headed in another direction. Any thoughts on how to address this?

Thanks for updating the font and legs. :)

I will think about it... but look at logos for major organizations... usually it is not a litteral representation of their product... usually it is just an idea to imply what you do...

Carol,

I love the snippits of color you added, but I like your line drawings (and I'm still laughing at your SUPER cute polka dot hen!).

My husband, your greatest champion, wants to see you lose the tagline, keep the line drawing of the joyful hen and the simple barn, and then integrate some color with an implied vegetable garden feel (line drawing) . He agrees completely with your point about logos not being literal representations. I'm struggling with the fact that nobody seems to know what I'm selling! :). He says I'm selling joy and your logo has joy. This is true.

Thanks, Carol. Shelley

Logo Designer
OK let me think about it tomorrow... you want me to develop the polka dot hen with a farm idea?
I agree if you are selling joy ... I will focus on that idea! Joyous Hens have lovely coops!

No on the polka dot hen. We like the simple hen for a logo. (But I sure do like polka dots!) Line drawing, with barn background and some allusion to vegetable gardening and/or backyard farming.

YES on Joyous Hens have lovely coops or rather, hens and their coops can be joyous and lovely-- not just utilitarian food sources that live in beaten down sheds!

This latest wave of chicken keeping is about local food sourcing, that hens are SO fun to watch (it's true), and they are fun pets, if raised as such. And that is why I now sell coops-- I was given some young chickens, even though I hate birds-- and I LOVED them. The sounds they make, they way they run, reaching into their nesting box and pulling out warm eggs, having "farm chores" in my backyard. I made my own coop and people wanted it. So now I make and sell coops.

Thanks, and good night. Shelley

Carol,

You are SOOO talented!

#138 picks up the colors I find around my home (a trifle too mustardy in the yellow stripe and and dark in the red), so it is safe to say that I LIKE it! I love the folksy quality and, of course, the farm aspect. Could you match the red of the coop to my coop, but still maintain the slightly fuzzy quality (for want of better descriptive words in this art form), and brighten the red and the yellow, but not the yellow of your polka dot girl or the red in the wattles (actually, the yellow of your corn or whatever it is is good, but perhaps that is the bright yellow and I don't know it?). Sorry, I absolutely don't know colors!

#137 I very very much like how fun this is, especially that the gal standing on the 'S' !!! But it is a bit too fun for an all-the-time look. Can you head toward your #138 with it? On my original attached document in the brief, I've got an image of some hens that have the look I'm most attracted to.

Thank YOU!!

I just looked; the color red I'm using on my red barn coop is cherry tart by Behr Paint-- just in case that helps.

Logo Designer
at work now ... probably can't get to it for a few hours.

But even in judging if someone is ranked #1 they can make edits.

Logo Designer
looked up your cherry tart color on google and updated the coop color -- I also added the lines to imply panels.

hope you like it

Yes, I love it. Too many lines, I'd say. Funny, but that color is not accurate, well at least on my computer screen. A bit too dark or orange or whatever-- easy to fix.

I like the barn shape of #92 better because it isn't so wide, but perhaps that is necessary to make the design work? Does the hen have to have such a red-orange comb? If her neck were a bit bigger, could it be the same color as the barn?

Don't know these things. I am relying on your feedback for good design sense, here, please.

Thank you

whoops left my drive at the office so I can't make the changes until the morning when I go over there.

I made the coop wide because it enhanced the text length. but I am not sure what YOUR coops look like so it is difficult to know ... do you have photos of your coops on line somewhere?

My husband's grandfather was a chicken farmer where LAX is today in So Calif. that was in the 50's... so he knows about liking chickens...! I was a city girl...

The coop photo was in the design brief attachment, as was the polka dot hen I liked so well.

You can also see by going to www.eggshellfarmette.com/main. This site is a work in progress, so don't determine fonts off of it or other details. The current live site is www.eggshellfarmette.com.

Thanks, Shelley

based on your recent public comment should I assume you do not want the modifications you requested to #92?
In judging mode only the #1 designer can make changes.

I looked at your attachments but didn't realize the illustration were your coops.... somehow I just saw the painting and not the photos of your coops before when I first started on your contest. OK let me know if you want to rank mine #1 and see any modifications.

Good morning.

Yes, I'd like to see your modifications, but not until tomorrow. I had you ranked #1 all night, but woke up and switched them up a bit. I love your work and am glad you have enabled me to have a conceptual choice. Not better or worse, just different.

Thanks, Carol,

Hi, Carol,

I'm looking forward to seeing you work your magic. I realized today that my screen isn't showing the colors accurately, so perhaps that Cherry Tart is the right color. I'll see what I can do to find an accurate screen.

I'm going offline now, but I'll be available on and off tomorrow and am often awake in the middle of the night. I hope you will have some time to look at my stuff. I'd like to make my decision this weekend.

Thank you,

SHelley

tried to make a coop kind of like your 'look' .... you could have two versions one simple and one with the coop and farm for different applications.

I like the new design very much and my husband is going to go nuts over it!!

Catch you tomorrow.

Now that I've moved it into the green column, I find it looks different. Perhaps it's because it gets smaller?

Anyway, now it looks like 3 separate drawings on top of writing, whereas #138 has a more cohesive feel. Can you put the new barn in place of #138's barn and still be happy with it from a designer's point of view?

Also, I'm wondering whether you can also try putting he hen perched on my S, which would make the eggShell easier to read. Like your colorful polka dot hen placement.

OK now I truly am going to bed.

I did try that ... but will again...

Great revision. Thank you.

Can you take #198 and head with the barn more toward #92 barn, meaning line drawing barn of my coop?

BTW -- every time I see #137, I giggle. It is so fun.

So, simplify and continue to convey the joy one gets from a backyard barnyard.

Carol,

I'm stumped and want your design advice. The line drawing isn't working for me because the barn siding is too faint and the roof is too prominent. Can you give me more siding and less roof?

I sure am loving this look. Thank you for helping me-- in fact, I'd love your advice.

Thanks

I changed the perspective a bit... I really prefer the solid coop to the outline... but it is your logo. Also we will provide elements separately so you can use them in different ways.

But I am happy to make any changes you request.

I don't understand about the perspective. Did you post another design? If so, I'm not seeing it.

Will you show me what it would look like with just the solid coop and the corn/wheat-- whatever it is?

Logo Designer
it is "any" crop.... you mean without the chicken?

okay?

Logo Designer
looks funny ... make a littler chicken.

No. What I mean is please show me the design without the hen and grass-- just the barn (not cropped).

I'm trying to see what a simpler version would look like. I know what the hen alone looks like. Now I'd like to see the barn alone.

Oh, #201 is a version with a small hen.

That reminds me of a photo I have of one of my Naked Neck hens on top of the coop. Will you put the little hen on top of the roof?

Here is the link to the photo I'm talking about: http://eggshellfarmette.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Rubbernecking1.jpg
12 years ago

Sorry that I'm slow to respond; I'm building coops. I'll check back in a bit.

Carol, If you would, please create just 3 more images:

First Image: #92 Add your grass/wheat to that line drawing-- not with my coop, but just as it is.

Second Image: Take the image from the one above that you created and put the hen on the roof, move the eggShell farmette writing into the barn area, and put the wheat grass along the bottom. Lose the tagline.

Third Image: #201 move the hen onto the top of the barn.

Then I think I'm done. :)
