Hi Rossizach,
First of all - let me apologize for not submitting an explanation for my logo entries. I always do that, and I've written rather lengthy explanation for those 3 logos after uploading my 3rd entry, but only when I logged on to read your feedback, I realized that it hasn't been posted - it got lost somewhere on the internet.
Apart from the obvious reason (you mentioning logo you liked), the rectangle shape was the obvious choice (as the designer who did Dr. Phil's logo already knows). Here's why: open shapes (open triangles, rectangles, circles) in many cultures imply 'unfinished business', so to speak. Something that's left open, not done... In this case, it's not a good idea, in my opinion, because this logo should represent the exact opposite - look no further, you've found what you're looking for. Open shapes tend to look more attractive, but I believe they're not as good for something like this.
Thanks for your feedback regarding my entry, I really appreciate it. As I explained above, I would strongly suggest that the rectangle stays closed. To avoid the logo looking too sharp, I deliberately used softer, more circle based serif font - those fonts are usually used to convey a message of trust and confidence. In this entry, I changed the placement for the Dr. part, it's now almost as an afterthought, because the name is the main focus of the logo - the man, not the title.
Sorry for such a long (and I hope not too confusing) message.
regards,
dzadza
