I did some research on what you said and totally agree... but for my book cover and online photos I do like the gradient gold.. I can always make it one color for printing purposes if I need to..
Check out the new design!! The artist that comes closest or something like the picture I uploaded will definitely win the contest
I like Gold!!! With the black back ground ... if you could come up with a really creative U and that could be a stand alone logo.. I would like to see what you can create.. thanks in advance
About your requests, I strongly advise AGAINST using gradients, shadows, 3D effects or any other shiny/glowy twists in your logo. It will make your logo impossible to embroider, very expensive to print properly, unusable in various other situations (small scale for example - the more details you have, the harder it will be to know whats going on in there).
Whatever you choose, you should go for something clean and flat, if you don't want to have a hard time when you want to use the logo physically.
Long story short, gradients will make your logo hard to reproduce, there will be a lot of printing issues.
Many sellers don't care about these 'details' and they use gradients and shadows to get the client's attention and sell logos faster.
I advise every client to keep it clean and flat, as less colors as possible and not too many details.
But please don't take my word for it, take a few minutes and do some research, you'll thank me later.
My concept is actually a combination of a shield and the front view of a lion's head. Not the traditional lion that you find all over the internet but a more geometrical one.
I will make the lettering the same color as the icon in a minute.

Added a thin U shape in the icon aswell. Left the small beard detail outside the U shape so it doesn't look like a V.
