I like what you've done; suggestion: make the serpent more subtle - look at the existing logo posted with the contest - we want the audience to see the dove first, then the serpent.
Following your suggestions I tried to bring the dove to more prominence - not destroying the shield effect in the same time. Not sure but made it a bit more graphic too.
