I really like the bright, bold colors in these, but it reminds me too much of some other logo -- I just can't think of what it is.

i think it's the combination of the two. I'd wish I could be more specific about what reminds me of something else, but I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps trying a different shape would solve the problem, as I do really like the color palette.
