please advise what Judaic symbols might be most appropriate for your synagogue... Torah, Ner Tamid, Dove of Shalom, Kehillah.... examples of the ones I entered. As I have a love of this type art, I hope I can capture the look and feel that you want for your congregation.
thanks for feedback.. hope I can come up with a good logo that you will love... I actually teach at my synagogue - 6th grade... really love doing this type contest...
Hi, We are leaning towards picking the menorah logo (currently number 1), but some changes would be helpful. The word Anshe in Hebrew characters should be on top of the right side of the menorah, and the word Shalom in Hebrew characters on top of the left side of the menorah. The star above the middle candle can be eliminated. The Hebrew letters should be in a flame color. The English should be to the right of the menorah, not underneath it. It should be three lines. Top line - Congregation. Middle line - Anshe Sholom. Bottom line - New Rochelle. The English content should have the same height as the Menorah/hebrew letters.
certainly... this means a lot to me. Happy to make changes you want... just let me know. I tried a couple different fonts in English as well.
I love playing with Hebrew letters too! But I am a beginner at studying the language - so excuse any errors.
did you notice that the menorah itself is a stylized version of the word Sholom in Hebrew? (It helps that my nephew's name is Sholom and I did a lot of name designs for him when he changed his name - he was the rabbi at Binghamton NY Hillel until this year)
Hi Carol, Hopefully we can wrap up the contest today. Could you tinker with the current #1 ranked version and make the following options: (a) regular looking Hebrew letters without italics (b) circular flames instead of hebrew letters (c) nothing at all above the menorah. Whichever of those looks best will probably be the winner. Thanks again.
did several versions... one of the 'regular' hebrew letters I used basic Ariel Hebrew font rather than my hand drawn font... kind of like that better. We can give you a version with flame and with the Hebrew... after the contest. I will also send you a one color version and other formats you may need for different applications.
I do all types of things for my own synagogue in CA... we develop fund raising materials, announcement magnets for different programs like Oneg Israel and the Tot Shabbat, we do teacher and bnei mitzvah gifts and even their basic letterhead. I hope I can work with your synagogue going forward as well...
Hi Carol- we're still trying to figure out the perfect option - thanks for all the work. Which fonts do you have for hebrew? Would you be able to try a more "handwriting" font for the anshe in Hebrew? Also, can you try to have the four hebrew letters somehow go across the entire menorah (if the letters were more 'flowy', that might work.. Thank you again!
I tried the script font I have - it is really an odd font and the keys are not the same as on other Hebrew fonts...so if you like that please double check that I got the right letters... I am not all that confident in script especially with this font.
Happy to try other Hebrew fonts also the ones I have are: Arial Hebrew, Corsiva, Adobe, Raanana, New Peninin, Hebrew WSI, Ain Yiddishe Cursive, Beth Am Hebrew (a custom one done for my synagogue but they no longer use it in their identity)
and I have a few others at home in addition to the hand drawn ones I did for my classes.
Hi, We have decided not to go with hebrew characters on top... the current number 1 is just the menorah logo... could you send something with the three English lines evenly spaced: (a) stretching from the top of the Menorah to the bottom (b) centered relative to the Menorah, but not extending all the way to the top or bottom of it (c) english lines starting at the top of the "Shin" and going to the base of the Menorah... thanks
