And congratulations! Your last-hour surprise submission just earned you a spot in the top 5 phase!
I love the font you used. I love the fact that "College" is not capitalized. I love the colors, the pictorial element, and the how everything relates to each other.
I hope you submit more ideas or variations. Two suggestions:
(1) make the logo large: less white space on the left and right of the logo - this will make it stand out more when we view it along side of the other logos that have been submitted
(2) While I appreciate and admire its simplicity, I do feel that it is missing "something" relative to the other designs that we are considering. What is it missing? That's a hard question to answer! :) Maybe the ribbon should be in a different color? (a lighter/brighter blue) Maybe it needs an additional pictorial element, even if abstract? I don't know. And I might change my mind in the end and prefer the simplicity of this one. But clients have the right to be fickle, don't they? :)
Any way: I was so pleased to see this, and I hope you'll do some more. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Thank you!!!
You beat me to it! You submitted another logo while I was typing above! Brilliant! That might be too much additional element, but you're on the right path! Thanks again.
Regarding the additional pictorial/abstract element: I like your ideas, but it's still not right. Subtle might be better. The old "less is more" adage.
I sent a bigger version of the logos to see better the details... also some different colors for the ribbons And I tried to incorporated some more "academic" part for the logo...
OK... I understand that the swoosh is too much ... I'll try to simplify
Just for kicks, could I see how #160 would work as "College 1000"? (1000 instead of 500). We might end up going to market with that instead - unlikely, but a possibility. I'll probably end up moving it into the "no longer being considered" pile, but I would like to see it. Thanks.
Hi Thanks again about your comments :) Well.. all the elements, ribbons, diplomas, certificates, graduation caps, books... are common for the kind of logo that you want... so, it is usual to have some resemblance among the logos...
As I'm not living in the USA I'm not used for the magazines about colleges there... but I looked for and I just found the Money's Best Colleges that have a ribbon... anyway that quote about the imitation is totally right...
Okay: we're on to the Top 5 Phase - very exciting!
I still like #160 the best. The overlapping numbers in #171 also look good to me, but I would like to try it with less overlap - half way in between #160 and #171.
Are you using Pantone colors? I'm not even sure what that means or if it's a big deal. Should I be concernced about that? Why or why not? Thanks.
I'd also like to try a slightly darker blue for the word "College". The other three colors are perfect. Don't go overboard on the darker blue - but I would like to see if a slightly stronger blue would look better to me in this logo.
Would a subtle "swoosh" underneath "College" add depth to this logo? Or would it be too much - just an unnecessary adornment that looks silly? Even if done in a subtle gray color? I probably won't like this at all - just trying to stimulate your own thinking :)
I'm open to all suggestions. And let me know if you have any questions. So glad you decided to submit an entry.
I used the colors in the brief.. they are RGB/Hex values... Pantone colors are color guides that theoretically the printing business uses to match a color... if you give the Pantone XXX they should print always the same tone... but that is not true, because is very difficult to match 100%... usually people uses CMYK colors that match better with any device, screens, printing, etc,...
There are some nice webs to search for colors http://www.colourlovers.com/ to search palettes and https://color.adobe.com/ this could seem more complex but it is not... is perfect to look for HEX values for the color that you want and also for complementary or look for created palettes too.. I hope helps you
About the swoosh I'll try again trying to be more subtle... anyway if you are looking for a web 2.0 logo the best is the "minimal".. and plain colors... but I understand that an emblem logo could be very nice too... more oriented to a classic printed magazine... both options are good... and I'm sure that you will got here a lot of options to choose :)
I ended up going with an emblem logo. But I ranked your design in 2nd place - silver. I really loved it and would have chosen it if a really cool emblem design had not emerged in the last hour. Thanks again.
