What we don't like: Entry 13 Due to the size, "Chicago" overpowers the "Photo Safaris" and we'd like to emphasize the photo safaris more, if possible. Not sure what blue circle represents... a compass? This one might be lacking the main 3 ideas we're trying to communicate with potential customers: photography, adventure / fun, and education. Or maybe we don't fully understand your direction or purpose for the use of the circle?
What we like: Entry 14 Font, simplicity, color. Would it be possible for you to explain the choice of color and symbol design? It definitely represents Chicago, but it looks like there is more there and we would just like to understand it better. We are intrigued. :)
What we don't like: Entry 14 Due to the size, "Chicago" overpowers the "Photo Safaris" and we'd like to emphasize the photo safaris more, if possible.
What we like (16): Simplicity, font, scale, focus on "photo safaris" as opposed to "Chicago", idea of photos forming the compass outline
What we don't like (16): The compass. For some reason, this isn't resonating with us. We feel it's not representing the 3 main ideas we're trying to convey: photography (although the boxes forming the compass could represent photos), adventure / fun (although we do think it represents travel), education. The main reason, we think, is because you think of a compass when you need to find your way or when you are lost and we'd rather try to convey more of a fun, photography-focused idea. Also, the use of blue with the compass idea doesn't feel as strong to us as some of the other designs.
What we like (17): This feels like Chicago (reminds us of Chicago Cubs) which would resonate in the local market, simplicity
What we don't like (17): This one may not produce feelings of photography, adventure/fun, or education outside of the Chicago market. The outline makes me think of a compass (but I'm focused on this logo redesign) but we feel other people may just view it as a spiked outline without any context of what it could represent. Does the negative space in this one represent anything? It reminds me of what a lighthouse viewed from the sky may look like. We were just wondering if you had a specific reason for creating that negative space or if it represented anything to you.
What we like (18): Emphasis on photography. Anyone who knows about photography would understand the symbol represents aperture. Font.
What we don't like (18): Color: This combination doesn't resonate with us (sorry we can't be more specific on why... we just don't like it but can't seem to identify the reasons for it). The aperture symbol: Although this conveys the idea of photography, we feel it's a little bit too literal.
We really appreciate you submitting your ideas to the contest! (We hope we're not being too harsh or critical about anything; we're trying to be as clear and concise as possible about what we like and don't like to help everyone!)
We love your 42-45 entries! We're still talking about which is our favorite so ranking will come soon for them!
Some users have initially thought of a snail when looking at 44 & 45. Is there a way to edit this one a little to take away that feeling? To me, it represents photography with the center image, adventure/travel through the spiral, and the font screams education/institute. I think you hit the nail on the head with what we're trying to convey, but we're just a little nervous about the snail analogy. Any ideas?
Also, the red & green that you chose are beautiful choices alongside the black. We also like 42 & 43, but are not sure where they fall in the ranking yet. Those also inspire the ideas of travel, but maybe not as much photography. What were your thoughts in composing this one? We might not fully understand your viewpoint so we'd love to hear more about them!
Thanks for your feedback. That helps me to improve my design. Based from your explanations before, I've tried some variations based from my previous entry #45. I hope you have many choices after seeing my latest entries.
#40 Comments -We like the idea of the world, but can we make the world less detailed/more abstract? -Maybe submit an idea with the world on top of "Chicago Photo Safaris". Another designer submitted something like this and we didn't like his world icon and he removed it from the site. But we liked the general idea.
For the remaining 3 that are still in... Could you try submitting one of the remaining 3 with a more natural green (more brown/yellow in it)?
We are having issues. There are 3 of us selecting the final design and each of us likes a different one and the other 2 people don't like these as much as other submissions. Apparently, I am the only one of the 3 who likes the red & green you selected. (Again, I love it!) But since we're so torn on this, it's making the idea move down in the ranks. Do you have any ideas to use something more literal, like a tree, camera, jeep, mountain, etc.? I'm just worried your ideas will not be selected since we all disagree on these.
