Can you try working with lighter weight type faces? Try the ones I listed... Perhaps you can also try to find a gradient of grey to use an abstract part of the logo like the perimeter of a circle etc etc. Look how the gradient is being used in this app icon. If you want more ideas let me know and we can discuss.
