I am starting this contest with few designs using the globe but as you said in the brief i am trying to go out of the box and think more creatively. I hope i am going the right way.

The design 2 with a Khaki color background. It is not black nor gray but gives good contrast and exposure to the red parts of the logo.

Here i changed the font to sans-serif typography and used The Southern Cross as a symbol of Australia.

Nice designs, I like the touch of the sourther cross all the way from Macedonia.
I am wondering what a design might look like of a map with Australia at the centre and 2 or 3 and arrows coming out of it across the world?
