Logo Designer
Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest as it progresses:

~~ You, the Client, are very important! Your active participation is the single greatest factor influencing this contest. Active participation by you, the Client, helps you get the logo design you want!
~~ What's active participation? It's updating the brief with more information for Designers to work with as the contest progresses, providing feedback to Designers on their entries when they're submitted, and ranking designs at least once a day.
~~ When you provide feedback to Designers, you increase the chances of getting the logo you want. More feedback = better results!
~~ Leave private feedback by clicking on a design. Feedback will be made public upon contest completion.
~~ Rank designs at least once each day -- this will encourage Designers to submit more entries!
~~ Ranking prevents your contest from going idle! Active contests attract more Designers.
~~ Ranking gets your contest noticed. Unless your contest is Private, 1st place entries are posted to the portfolio page: https://logotournament.com/portfolio
~~ Please note: if you're asking for a design that will require several hours to create, to attract Designers willing to invest that amount of time the prize should be at least $400-$500. All "Character" style logos fall into this category.
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested." We'd like to know what you don't want so we can give you the design you do want.
~~ The first phase of the contest is the "Open" phase, and everyone can submit during that time.
~~ After your contest's initial "Open" phase closes, it will enter the "Top 5" phase; only the top 5 ranked Designers will be able to submit revisions at that time.
~~ The "Top 5" Designers are the first 5 Designers in a contest, not the first 5 designs.
~~ When "Top 5" ends, the "Judging" phase begins. The Designer of the 1st place design will be the only Designer who can submit revisions at that time.

I like
+ an architectual detail (#1 and #3 are trying to get this, but are too busy, not iconic)
+ an iconic logo (#4, #5, #8, #9)
+ a blueprint-ish logo (like the "This Old House" window and the PBS logo in my contest brief)

I don't like
- a Greek look (#7)
- a play on "JG" (#2, #6)

I would prefer a logo that is can be repositioned relative to the business name, so that it will be more easily used in different media. On a vehicle door the logo might need to be moved to the side of the business name in order to keep the lettering at a legible size. On an employee's t-shirt, the business name might not appear at all. Hence #1 is a less flexible design.

Check out the images I just uploaded.

The logos seem to focus a lot on skyscrapers. I don't do skyscrapers. Do a google image search on Ghent Norfolk to see the sort of homes and businesses I want to reach.

LIKE A LOT - double stairways and doors with pediments, both pictured in my uploaded images
LIKE A LOT - drawings, blueprints

OK, shifting gears. I've rearranged the rankings, and have uploaded a few images that are interesting to me.

The bottom right portion of #72 is very interesting. It's the top of a column, in my eye. If that were enhanced a bit, perhaps showing just a tiny bit more column and a bit more of the circular top, it might stand alone.

I started playing with the plumb bob idea and came up with the "Plumb Bob Logo" that I uploaded. I like the look of it but I know it can be improved.

At this late stage, the top five to ten logos are the only ones that interest me.

OK, I have five finalists. Going forward, the ranking has less to do with which design I like, and more to do with which designers I like.

Here are some things I've learned, despite whatever I may have put in my brief --
1. I do not like fades/bleeds. I seem to prefer solid colors and clean separations, sometimes even with a white line between them.
2. I like very simple icons. Simple objects can be more literal, complex objects need to be more suggestive. I initially did not want to use a tool, but the plumb bob carries a lot of meaning to the construction trades, so I'm interested in seeing more interpretations of it.
2.5 I like two sided logos. Call it yin and yang if you'd like, but I like the effect very much.
3. #63, #120, #38 - Even with my earlier misgivings about a skyscraper look, these are definitely buildings, and they say "contractor."
4. Zonpipo1, I don't like the similarity between the super dark bergundy and the black in #63. Two colors might be great but I need to see them separated and more contrasting.
5. illumina, I struggle with #71 because it's pleasing to the eye, but I don't know whether it says "construction" and I don't know where it can go. Maybe you can do something more with it, but I'd like you to do something with the "Plumb Bob Logo" that I uploaded, and also something similar to the GAF logo. #122 is a bit off for me because the letters are rounded and they're not contained in anything. I seem to prefer initials that are inside something else.
6. ndro, #120 is interesting, but the left side doesn't seem right. I don't know that the left vertical line is necessary, but more importantly, I don't like the squared-off bottom. I think I would rather it follow the same line as the top. Can you give me some variations?
7. psto, I'd like to see your take on the bob and on the GAF logos.
8. alozar, I haven't seen anything from you in a while. #38 is still attractive to me. Can you give me some variations? I don't have anything in mind but it just doesn't seem quite there.

Thanks to all of you for your excellent work.

Everyone, please pay no attention to ranking. I'm making zero effort at this point to rank the designs. If you're in the top five, then you're doing fine, and you should only pay attention to my comments.
