Logo Designer
Hello and Good Morning John & April,

Thank you for the invitation., I've uploaded 3 mockup on base don one theme. The images are in grey scale as I prefer to work in grey-scale the reason for this is if a design cannot look great in grey-scale/black&white no amount of eye candy or other horrid effects will make a bad design look good.

If these ideas are of interest please let me know and I'll continue to develop them

Design #23 is a paper boat concept

Client
#23 Paper boat! Fun! I thought it looked like a boat and imagined our crazy crew all sitting in it. Ha!
We both liked this as is, but I think we are looking for something more complex, something that tells a story. Like I said, approach it like it's a reality TV show centered around a plumbing company, not just a plumbing company. We may never have a reality TV show, but I'm going to move our marketing from generic to something that tells a story, the story of us, the characters behind the company, the family, the staff, the dog.
I want something that will translate across multiple platforms - from a service truck to a book cover.
Clear as mud?
Thank you so much for your hard work. Anything I can give you to help, let me know.

I should dis-regard the plumbing aspect and focus on watermark as the brand identity?

Client
I'm just seeing your comment. We definitely need the word plumbing. Let's talk about the paper boat. When you add color, what do you have in mind?

Logo Designer
I meant as a theme not remove the word plumbing :)

I'm starting working one this now

DYING!! These colors are amazing. Don't delete it, but 2 quick comments, I think the tub looks a little like a crown or a boat. Wondering if there is something to do about this? Thoughts?

google search paper boat no there way around it not looking like a crown, bu that serves a secondary meaning queeneen/king of plumbing

Is there such a thing as an origami bathtub?

I kinda love the flag... Not sure it sends the right message, people might think we've come to their home in our boat made of gold to pillage and plunder with our high prices... still, can't help it if they don't have a sense of humor.

You're good. How do you manage to make a dog holding a plunger look classy? Is he wearing a tie?

Logo Designer
no tie just the way I created the neck fur, but I could add a bow time

I know you are a respected designer so if you could have a blank slate and just do something really fun and outside the box, what would it be? I want to try some designs that aren't so obvious with plumbing tools or W's. I posted a new comment in the general area.

Logo Designer
I did... the paper boat it's a non-standard generic design concept for the plumbing industry so I am a wee bit confused as to your definition of "outside the box".

More on the duck, I see the duck being more than a logo it's an marketing tool as we'll since this is a company make over if you are planning on launching a open house why not give ribber ducks away or if you attend plumbing expos etc they could be used as giveaways, better still Evey house call gets a "Watermark duck"

I'm loving this. The duck is great. A very happy side of plumbing. A couple of things. I feel like the overall logo is a bit dark. The gold especially is dark. I definitely don't want primary yellow, but maybe a toned down version of the gold and blue or a gold and sophisticated turquoise. I'm going to paste a few links to colors that are in the same family but maybe more retro.

Font - I'd like to see it with a more retro font. Maybe two different fonts. I know they need to be bold, but I feel like the font isn't retro.

The words are just a bit too small and I'd like Watermark to be more dimensional.

It's not letting me post an image so I'll post some links. These are some colors and concepts I like. I'd still like to see this logo become more retro looking. I'm trying to envision this on a service van and it's really dark right now so I'm going to throw some ideas at you.

The color of the sofa in this picture - grungy. I feel like it needs to be a bit grungier to be retro,

This poster has a couple of grungy yellows.

Love this color palette. Wondering if we needed a 3rd color if we could work in just a smidge of this coral. Before you spend time working on it, we could talk about if it's practical. I'd like a 3rd color that would just be a small part of the design but we could use in marketing.

Another possibility for background.

Last comment, in case you aren't worn out. These are plumbers wearing this logo and driving these trucks. It can't be too juvenile. Somehow, you need to work your magic so all the sudden it becomes cool for tough guys to represent the duck. I think it's got to be more retro grungy looking to pull this off. You can do it.

okay I understand cool guy duck lol

Scott,

I think I like the duck that is in first place right now. I would rather it be more associated with the fun of a child's bath than a more realistic duck. Thanks for showing us what it would look like.

You had me at Hello!!! We LOVE these new colors! I can totally see this on a van, invoices, business cards, etc. Much more retro. THANKS!

I agree it makes the duck not so cartoony, Did you know the firstt Rubber Duck was made in 1940 I had to look that up

I did not know that. It feels so valid now. I was looking at each of the backgrounds to see if the design changed. I noticed it did not except the tiny plungers. I like the color of the word Plumbing in 142, but it's harder to read in that thin font. I assume these are the things we can change on a case by case basis as we print on various backgrounds?

Also, should have thought of it sooner, but do we need to check with a mascot registry? Is there such a thing?

PS - I'm mad that you took the Jolly Rogers flag logo down. It made me LOL and I wanted to show it to the office.

How do the logo's come to us? What format and resolution? Do they include color numbers for printing?

Your not trade marking a yellow rubber duck as we are not using a yellow duck and carton duck really has this basic shape...google search cartoon ducks. As long as you do not call it a Yellow Rubber Duck then there should be no issue again this is common sense and not legal advice.

You would not trademark the mascot it would not go through... though trading marking WaterMark Plumbing should be accepted but the word Watermark may not clear.. My advise is to consult a trademark lawyer.

I can revise the dusk and still keep he style

#149 is the revised version, this one has more of a retro look and feel over the original my advice is to use this one not #140

I am withdrawing all other version except #140 until you re-rank.

that would be #152

typos this morning the revised duck is #151 you should use this version as mention it has a more retro look and feel

Everyone is preferring the original duck on #140. It's something to do with how big the blue lips are and also the eye is far away. #140 looks more like a rubber duck.

The grunge level on #151 is preferred. #155 is too "hairy".

I wonder if you could slightly grunge the original duck without it looking dirty.

Font is still not very retro. Can we try something different with the word Watermark?

Can you post #140 with no background color? I want to print it and see what it looks like.

Will you try the word watermark with this inner-shadow font that's in the word "Retro"?
I liked the proportion and the stretched feeling of the original word banner more than the newer, fatter one.
