Top Three Things to Communicate

#1 - Buffalo, NY - made in Buffalo, about Buffalo, for Buffalo. We're big fans of the city of Buffalo.
#2 - online TV - this is TV to watch now on your computer/ipod
#3 - professional, hip, smart, high-production values

Our Target Audience:

Demographic: 25-54, upper and middle income, professionals, college educated or in college.
Psychographics: fans of food, culture, arts, urban lifestyle.
Fans of Buffalo, NY - currently living here or ex-pats.

Color Preferences

I would like a color logo, but it must also work as black and white (i.e. in bottom right corner of TV screen)

Our Ideas and Additional Information:

The silhouette of a buffalo (profile) is a very common symbol of civic pride in Buffalo, NY - so I think this would be a great choice for a major element in the design (although with perhaps some twist to make it more contemporary, or give it more energy - often times the buffalo is just a standing buffalo). I'd be open to considering designs without this element, but my instincts tell me that it should probably be a major element in the design. (Then again, it is almost over used around Buffalo). Check out logos for Buffalo Bills and google other Buffalo businesses to know what I mean.

what are the rules for using sports logos?? Do you have permission? Do you want them in the logo?

I don't think you can use sports logos, as I'm sure they are copyrighted/trademarked. However, I was merely citing the Buffalo Bills as an example of the silhouetted Buffalo shape which is a common element in many Buffalo-area designs - and a powerful, instantly recognizable symbol of civic pride in Buffalo. Many Buffalo businesses use a profile, silhouette of a Buffalo (the animal) in their logo, and its on a lot of city of Buffalo souvenir merchandise, etc.

#9 - I'm looking for a simple mark / logo. This design incorporates a lot of Buffalo elements but is something more like the elements you would incorporate into a animated title intro sequence or something. The logo needs to be a strong, simple mark that can work in black and white, and that can work appearing in very small in the lower left corner of TV screen (like TV channel logos).

makes me laugh when he says
Quote:
"A lot of these designs are nice, but suffer from lack of a good Buffalo illustration. The animals look like bulls or some weird bull/buffalo hybrid.
For the more classic buffalo look check out"

then ranks a bull into rank 2 #105

I gave a high ranking to #105 to indicate I generally think this is the best design concept - and that changing a bull into buffalo could be an easy fix (sort of like changing a font or color) - it really is a detail which could be fixed and this design would be the BEST.
Thanks,

I have requested to extend the contest, because the top few ranked designs are all good, but each need a tweak of some sort to be useable. If you are one of the top designs I have probably posted a comment to your design or sent you a private message. Under official rules, LogoTournament will allow me to extend the contest, and I have requested that they extend. Thanks, all.
