Withdrawn New 5 Withdrawn New Comment Activity Night Owl commented on #53 Withdrawn Hi Daren, OK, I am writing this out side of LT and will cut and paste it. I had written a lengthy comment with the concerns that you may want to take into consideration. Unfortunately, the way LT dialog box is set-up, I lost everything before I was able to post the message. I keep this one shorter… Because I did not initially hear back, I assumed that I was pretty much shut out of the contest. (This seems to happen a lot when the CH is actually a marketing firm, and someone points out issue or flaw in the design brief. Usually, the marketing firm would rather sweep the problem under the rug rather than approach their client to remedy the issues.) From your comment to me, it appears that is not the case here. That’s good. First of all it seems that part of the issue was already brought to your attention. The bottle (as previously drawn) would have been top heavy. A buyer for a chain store will not want to shelve a bottle that has a propensity to tip over. I think the shape is still doable, but there are still manufacturing issues. For the bottle itself, it would be very beneficial that you consult with a manufacture and discuss your project before getting in too deep. Tooling a new bottle can be a very expensive proposition. Then there is the issue of how it will be filled, that is whole other potential problem that will come down the line, unless you plan to hand fill and hand label each bottle. Based on the final bottle version, only then can the label design be tackled. Assuming that the bottle can be designed with a flat surface, the exact die-line is needed to design the label properly. Of course there is so much more to take into account for a product label that is intended for retail sale as you are probably finding out. From what is said, how it’s said, and the placement of required verbiage to meet FDA regulations. Maybe I had assumed too much and the contest is strictly for a mock-up and never intended as a label to actually be used in production. In that case, it would really not matter (too much), the label chosen can be reworked at a later date and made compliant for retail in the future. :) OK, I did not get into as much detail as I had written the other day, but I think maybe enough food for thought. I look forward to one day seeing your product go to market. Cheers! Marcelo 7 years ago Night Owl commented on #53 Withdrawn Hi Darren, Thanks for the response. I just spent over an hour writing to you here and I keep losing the comments before I can post it. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, there are still many issues with the packaging design. I would hope that by now most designers have already brought it to your attention. At this point, I have no horse in this race, but I can still offer some help or answer any I'll see if tomorrow I can re-write everything and get it posted. Thanks. Marcelo 7 years ago daren7 commented on #53 Withdrawn thank you for the information and it's true I am new to this. This will be both logo from a basic outline standpoint and label for a bottle as it's currently being worked on.... the surface of the bottle where the label will be fixed is almost flat which should help. This will be a one - piece label front and a one piece label on the back with ingredients etc... does that help? I really appreciate the insight and help! Daren Brooks 7 years ago Night Owl commented on #53 Withdrawn The extension may have been a blessing for you. Looks like some designers figured out what was wrong with the bottle design (finally), but I think it would still be advisable to run the idea past a bottle manufacturer before getting over committed. There is still some issues with the bottle design and what's being asked of the designers. You might find that you'll have to also revisit the printing process and design requirements. Best of luck. 7 years ago Night Owl commented on #53 Withdrawn Hi, I imagine you have already been asked this (or at least you "should" have been already asked. I would hate to see anyone spend good money on artwork that can't be used). It looks like this contest is more of a label than a logo. Not that there's a problem with that, but the brief does not seem to cover key issues that any designer would need to design. I have been designing these types of labelsl for over 20 years and there are concerns I see in the brief. Do you know what type of printing you will be using? Based on the shape of the bottle there may be a problem. The shape shown would indicate that the bottle would have a different type lid if it is to sit that way on the shelf. That lends me to believe that the bottle might not have a flat surface for a label (one plane would need to be flat, either horizontal or vertical, both can't be curved) for this reason should we be designing with "pad printing" in mind? It is pretty important to know this to design accordingly. On the assumption that you are using a label, do you know if it will be flexography or offset? If that is the case, I made the label with all edges rounded for die-cutting. Lastly, I was not sure what the bottle mock-up is with the name "Dr. Brooks'..." Is that printed seperately than the main face of the package? Doing so or making additional die-cut considerably raises your cost for printing, die-cutting as well as production costs. Am I misunderstanding the mock-up? I know it's a challenge to work on a site like this without full communication with designers, but the more information you can give us the more likely that you will get exactly what you need without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars for work that can't be used. Cheers! Marcelo 7 years ago
