#1/#2 on the right track - might not be bold enough to read well on caps/shirts, etc.
don't like #3 - i think that's a wave, not sure

I'm not trying to be nasty or insulting, but I was hoping for something that was a few steps above the 'clip art' designs that I am seeing here. I really have not seen anything so far that is noteworthy. I think that the design needs to be very clean, bold and simple. I could create most of the current design submissions using my font and clip art libraries. I'm hoping that someone will step it up.

well. yes. that´s insulting. All images here are illustrated and created from scratch since Cliparts are not allowed here. They take hours not 5 minutes. If you´re not after that kind of illustration, then just give comments on the style you´re after for instead of discredit designers´skills.

Thanks.

Tahia and all,
OK. Sorry that you took offense. I'm just being honest. Some of the images (from the design entries) look eerily similar to images in my own clip art library. I am not sure who at logotournament screens for clip art but if you say there is no clip art, then so be it. I WAS trying to provide guidance by stating that I'm looking for clean, bold and simple. I'll try to provide more constructive dialog below. I appreciate your input and your efforts and that of all of the designers.

MORE INPUT FOR ALL DESIGNERS: The design needs to be readable on the web as well as on t-shirts, caps, etc. That means bold fonts and simple, bold symbols. Designs with intricate elements don't work well in these media. Also, SailingGear.Com sells gear mostly to sailors, but to a lesser extent to all boaters. I think that images relating to sailboats will be the best (not motor boats). And the images must be recognizable to sailors. By that, I mean not something abstract.

Best Regards
Mike

I agree with Tahia. There's a difference between being picky and insulting. The line's been crossed. I've taken offense too, as would many others.

And... good luck.

The latest designs are very good. A couple of comments. The color yellow does not read very well when used in the name (SailingGear.Com). If using blue and yellow, try to keep yellow out of the font, it just seems too light. Or maybe use a darker yellow (like mustard). I'm also open to other color schemes. Also if using upper and lower case in the name, use caps for the S, G & C.

Thanks

Lots of great entries coming in. I'm blown away. Here's a thought. After seeing the efforts of many talented designers, it's obvious that we have just about exhausted the ideas built around images of boats and sails (and they are good). But maybe we could explore ideas that might be a little more avant garde. One of my favorite logos is by a sailing news site called Sailing Anarchy (www.sailinganarchy.com). It's simple, bold and memorable. It can be used on web sites, looks great on caps and t-shirts and is instantly recognizable. Entry #22 by ameet is heading in that direction.

Thanks for all the hard work

A friendly reminder to all designers.

if you have any designs post in this contest or others that are using stock images/Vectors or traces of any of these please;

1. remove
2. rework
3. re-submit

As you know The MODs are always doing followups on designs to ensure LT posting requirements are met.

-----------------------------------
Submission rules:

* NO CLIPART (ISTOCKPHOTO, SHUTTERSTOCK, ETC.) EVEN IF YOU OWN THE RIGHTS.
* NO TRACING OR VECTORIZATION OF EXISTING CLIPART OR PHOTOGRAPHY (UNLESS YOU TOOK THE PICTURE)
* 350x280 pixels or (width/height ratio of 1.25:1) in JPG, PNG, or GIF format
* Only one variation per upload (example: if you want to show a logo in red, blue, and yellow. You would create and upload 3 separate files)
* No designer firm watermarks
* Neatly centered both horizontally and vertically with spacing all around. (No ugly oversized logos that hit the edges, negative space is a designer's friend!)
* No Borders - we are building a clean and consistent community portfolio.
* Your work must be created in a vector program such as Adobe Illustrator, and the final files MUST be delivered in .EPS format. Photoshop is not for logos and.

Admins & Mods will remove entries without notice for not following the above submission rules.

To all designers from CH
I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of town from 23 May - 31 May and will have limited time to review and comment on designs. But I will have SOME time. Please keep up the excellent work and have a great Memorial Day Holiday (if USA).
