Instead of going in a literal direction with a runner or a sneaker, I think it would be much more cutting edge to use a simple, iconic image that conveys movement. Brands like Nike and Adidas have simple logos that, at first glance, have nothing to do with sports. But they're strong and they can stand alone. The benefit of using a logo like this, is you can use the icon separately - blow it up big and watermark it for stationery, put it on a tshirt or waterbottle. The possibilities are endless.
