What We Do
Kursagenten.no (translates course agent in Norwegian) is Norway's largest online course catalog, with everything from language courses and guitar lessons to professional training in the oil industry or full-time educational programs.
Industry
Internet
Color Preferences
The main color should be red or orange, with one or two supporting colors. The winner of the contest will also be hired to create logos for other similar services we run, where only the main color and the wording will be changed, so the support color(s) will have to match almost any color.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
The domain name should be the dominant part of the logo, but I also want a symbol that can be used alone to represent the company, when people have gotten used to the logo:

This can either be:

1) Design the A in kursagenten in some way that it pops-out of the logo and therefore also will be recognized when standing alone.

2) Design the A in kursagenten as a symbol that relates to agent (eye, man in suit etc), but it should also be easy to read the symbol as an "a"

3) Use a symbol in front of the logo that either relates to the letter "a" or agent (eye, man in suit etc). Then the word kurs and agenten must be separated with two different colors.

The contest is now open, and I promise I will pop in here every day to answer questions and give feedback on posted entries.

I highly appreciate your work! Good luck!

Thanks for your entries motorange, but if you want to use a symbol in the design it should not be the main element. The name of the site must be the main element of the logo (I guess it's called a wordmark), then you can use a stylized eye that also looks like an eye either as a symbol in front of the domain, or where the "a" is. But don't get to hung up in my "eye idea" because it's probably not easy to make an "a" look like an eye. To form the "a-symbol" you might just put a background on it to make it pop-out.

The logo can also be just a wordmark without a symbol. Then I would like "kurs" to be written in red, with "agenten" in some other color that works fine with most colors (black, grey, yellow etc.). This is important when we will keep the "agenten" name in other similar logos where only the word in front of "agenten" will be changed.

It's not important to incorporate the slogan in the design.

I've edited the brief to make it clearer what I'm after:

The domain name should be the dominant part of the logo, but I also want a symbol that can be used alone to represent the company, when people have gotten used to the logo.

This symbol can either be:
1) Design the A in kursagenten in some way that it pops-out of the logo and therefor also will be recognized when standing alone.
2) Design the A in kursagenten as a symbol that relates to agent (eye, suit etc), but it should also be easy to read the symbol as an "a"
3) Use a symbol in front of the logo that either relates to the letter "a" or agent (eye, suit etc). Then the word kurs and agenten must be separated with two different colors, where kurs is written in red and agenten is written in a color that also matches other colors (black, grey etc.)

I've updatet the ranking.

Kanava: Good job! I like #11 the best, because of the "a" is more stylistic (abstract) than the "a" in Kanavas other entries. I like the way you have used two different colors on kurs and agenten, but mixed the two colors in the "a". This makes the "a" look like something that can stand alone.

Identity: If you want to try to incorporate an eye as an "a" like I suggested in the brief, the eye must be the a, not just lay on top of it, as in #4 (I know it's hard...). Three bright colors are too much. I would prefer a bright main color (red) and one or two subtle (grey for example). See Kanavas entries.

... meant of course #5 in the feedback to you Identity. Sorry!

If more people wants to use an eye symbol like I suggested in the brief (either alone as a symbol in front of the domain, or incorporated in the domain replacing the "a") it would be nice if you tried to make something stylistic or abstract like in the Foresight Linux logo (http://www.foresightlinux.org/) or in the Nvidia logo (http://www.nvidia.com/). Thanks!

Feedback to motorange:
- #15 and #16 works fine when using the full domain, but I don't believe the "a" works very well alone. Remember that I either want a symbol in front of the domain (related to the letter a or agent from our name), or that the "a" in the wordmark also can stand alone as a symbol used in all our different services. The "a" (or other symbol) is important because the name of the mother company is Agentgruppen (agent group), and we want to use the symbol as a stand alone in the mother company's logo.

Feedback to akerman:
I like #18 the best because I want the domain to be the main focus, not the symbol (pictoral mark). I'd also like to see your symbol used as an A within the domain.

Feedback to Identity:
#19 is following the idea I had for an eye as an "a" inside the domain, but it still needs some work. Maybe you should try with some different styles on the eye. Did you take a look at Nvidia and Foresight Linux? The man in the other designs, looks like he's got an halo and gives me associations to religion - not what I'm looking for.

----- TO ALL DESIGNERS! ------

I just figured out that I can post feedback on each designer's profile, instead of here; but here is some feedback I gave the current leader that I believe will be helpful to all of you:

I like #38, but maybe you should try with another font. I would also like to see an example where you use a second bright color instead of black. Then "kurs" should be in red - the "a" should be in the other color (or a blend), and "agenten" in only the second color (maybe yellow or orange). The idea is that we will use the "a"-symbol in our main company's (Agentgruppen) logo, and that we will use the same design on all our services. Then we will keep the "a" and the support color (black, yellow....), but change the red with some other bright color, and change the name to for example internett@genten, reise@agenten etc (i don't want you to use @ - it's just to show that the "a"-symbol, will always be in the middle of the name).

#33 and #32 is very similar to #11, which I like better, but I like the idea to use two colors and melt them together in the "a"-symbol.

I like the 3D effect in #34 and #35, but if you are going to use the a in the icon/symbol, i'd prefer that it was incorporated in the domain, instead of standing in front of the name. But an icon/symbol that reflects the "agent" name (man in suit, eye etc.) could work as a icon/symbol in front.

Good work! I'd love to see more entries from you :-)

A comment to #38: kurs should always be written in red. You are free to try other colors in the rest of the logo, but keep in mind that in other similar the logos, for otehr services we run, the red will be swapped with blue, green etc, so it would have to be a color that works well with many colors.

We're off to a good start, and some of the entries so far are quite good :-)
I see that you all have followed my suggestion of using a not too bright color (black, grey, white) to support the red, but this is NOT AN ABSOLUTE CRITERIA from my side. If you feel that your designs would be even better with some other color next to the red, I would like to see it :-)
