I'm saying consulting because it's a general audience. I do software for a living but am interested in other areas where this logo might be useful (carpentry, writing). So a broad base of customers, users, and readers. I have a blog at http://efsavage.com/blog if you want to dig deeper, but it's a minimalist design.
Color Preferences
Black or darker shades of green, brown, or blue. I'd like it work to some extent in monochrome too.
Our Ideas and Additional Information:
As for letterforms/fonts, I like serif that are strong and elegant but not too ornamental. Looking through the short list of fonts I have, Garamond or Trajan would be closest. If you want to try a pictoral mark I'm open to it but it would probably be more abstract embellishment than symbolic.

Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest:
~~ Rank designs daily -- this will encourage more participation. ~~ Ranking designs daily will also keep your contest from getting cluttered. ~~ The more feedback you provide, the better results you are going to see. ~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested" ~~ Over-use of "Not Interested" discourages participation. ~~ Ranking is a non-monetary means of showing appreciation for designers hard work. ~~ Designers earn points for ranked designs. We like to earn points.

I appreciate the entries so far, but I'm not feeling the diamond/flower motif. Maybe a letterform based on EFS? As for the letters, I'm leaning more towards the thinner styles of #1 and #4.
I'm currently torn between #12 and #13 for 1st, I like that #12 is a little more durable looking but #13 looks a little more like it's trying to incorporate EFS, kind of.
55 entries! Wow, you guys have really been great. Still 3 days left to nail this thing down.
OK guys, here's where I'm at: #42 - Love the simplicity and strength of it, but the S looks a little too Z-like. #18 - Again, simple & strong, but no S. #54 - Totally different style, but the negative space aspect is really appealing. #30 - Very cool looking, but the S is kind of off. #13 - Feel the same way as #42, I think I'd like it better if the line in the middle was vertical, but that would also be downplaying the S.
