Our Ideas & Additional Information
The web address; buildparts.com and this logo/icon will be used as a branding opportunity for the company C.ideas inc. to use in the introduction of our new website (May 1st 2009). This is a fresh new image and look for our company, BuildParts.com may eventually be the primary branding for our company, but for now, it is a simple, easy to remember web address that describes our services. It will likely go on T-Shirts, give-aways, print ads and web advertising. We don't know if we want the ".com" or not so you may submit it either way. As the contest goes on we may lean towards one or the other.

I'm really not sure how to use the ranking function... Should I wait until the designs are where I want them to be, or do I just vote on what I believe the current best designs are, even if they aren't what I truly want?

For now I will rank on what I feel the best designs submitted are and suppose it will take shape from there.

Thanks for participating.

Looks like we have some pretty nice initial designs. I would like to see some concepts that don't use the "B" or "P" letters in 3D, it's not that I don't think they are nice, but it seems as if that's the only direction people are heading.

We definitely like 3D elements, abstract or recognizable. We are very high tech and mainly produce in plastic. For logo designers that are into illustrations, like "tagger", feel free to go way outside the box and create a character.

I'm sure you get this allot during contests, but I would really like to see variety.

Thanks for participating, Mike

My thinking is that you can use either the 3D gears or the face-forward single gear depending on the circumstance - perhaps the former for web, powerpoint, etc. and the latter for print, fax, and the like...

Sorry, that comment was supposed to be in the section with my entries rather than here in the general board - still getting the hang of this site...:)

Here are some industry phrases that may inspire different designs:

Direct Digital Manufacturing, From "Art to Part", Solid Modeling, 3D CAD, 3D Printing, Thermal Plastic Parts.

I will be extending the contest so that I can review different designs in a meeting on Tuesday and we can vote for additional changes, while the contest is still running. I appreciate your submissions so far.

"Direct Digital Manufacturing, From "Art to Part", Solid Modeling,
3D CAD, 3D Printing, Thermal Plastic Parts." - From each of these we are led naturally to the idea of three-dimentionality. There is still plenty of room for the un-"expected", though...;)

Agreed and that is part of what we do, imagine... just like in the graphic design world, our customers projects range from; a tooth brush, cell phones, automotive components, airplane windows, medical devices, forensic or CT scans converted to real 3D (all of which may be eventually be produced, or are just pipe dreams)... The ideas and concepts for 3D printing are endless. This is why I extended the contest as well. I think there are some very talented techno geeks, like myself, that could really get inspired (kinda geek out) once they learn more about our industry.

And while we're at it, you DON'T see me bitching that someone else used a gear...

I think it could be neat to create a 3D factory, a place where widgets are produced? Stay away from gears, flames and pixels... Make an assembly line (in a abstract 3D world).
