How often do you turn of your computer?
Do you leave it on all the time? if so what power setting mode do you use?
I've been trying to figure this out for years, I've heard that if you keep turning
your computer on and off everyday, that wears down your hard drive.

Any opinions/solutions?

Thanks

Heh...I only turn it off (or reboot) when the updates make me, it gets locked up, or super slow. Typically no more than once a week....but I figure a lot of the time it is much longer than that.

I don't know what my power settings are. Its a laptop so I shut it at night and send it to 'sleep'.

Never shut it off unless it's a required reboot.
Longest running time was 231 days without reboot ( power outage killed me )

I use HIBERNATE or just leave it working while i'm not at the PC.
Hibernate is mroe convenient then Stand-By for me because the LED-fans don't lighten up all the room.
Reboots only if the PC starts slowing down, I install new software, of if there's a blackout. Last one is the worst

pc's are like cars... the on and off causes the most damage (hd, cpu, motherboard etc..). You wouldn't leave your car idling in the driveway overnight though, so make sure you set your power settings right. Hibernate is my chosen option, and it's good practice (energy wise) to turn the screen off. (Some motherboards have trouble initiating harddrives after hibernating, luck of the draw though).

hmmm.....running PC for continuously isnt possible in my side since there will be a obvious Power Cut and battery backup will be at most 30 minutes so have to shut it off in nights or when not using it!! and also I feel hibernate is little risky hard drives if you use it too much frequently......small changes can cause your OS damage.....

I shut it down all the time and do that with all my computers since 1999.
I had a HDD damaged, only once. We are not talking about servers here right?
Th PC is prepaired for that...even my 15000RPM HDD are ready to be shut down everytime it's needed.
