I love CS4. I have CS3 at work, and every time I use it I cry, waaaaaahhhhh! I love how in CS3 there are the cross hairs that let you line things up better with the mouse -- especially points in a shape. I need to get upgraded at work, but there's a budget crisis and all...

I just uploaded CS4 at work and am eager to see what is new... I have learned a lot here about features on CS3 lately that I missed b4. (thanks) and I have been using AI since 1988 - so much to learn!

I believe CS5 will be out mid-late this year, I'd only get CS4 right away if you think the productivity boost would be as much as the cost of the software.

I use CS4... some nifty features like the precise gradient control panel, multiple artboards plus the blob tool as mentioned by Signal. Coupled together with Intuos4 = designer bliss!!
I also use InDesign lots at work which has some cool new stuff like being able to rotate the pasteboard.

I have heard great things about Lynda.com but have never personally used it.
plus side, you can learn a lot in those 30 days.
i would take that over the safari book trial.
Brendan I believe can tell you a lot about lynda.

I work on CS2, before that I was working for many years on 10CE and basically nothing changes. So don't know where the hype is coming, just some easier access and all programs can do the same stuff regards the version. I would probably switch to CS5 when it comes out just to keep pace with the herd.
btw I loved 10CE so much that I cant even begin to mention it :)

p.s. illustrator 8 and 9 were also cool, huh now CS5 interesting stuff for the lazy designer that likes to spare 1-2 minutes or maybe not.

thanks for this thread. I have CS4 at my office but haven't taken the time to learn the features. I switch from CS to CS3 to CS4 depending on what working on - mainly because some of the new features need to be learned.

But I did notice there are a lot more potential effects on 4 to play with.

Yeh snap to grid is a bit of a hassle in cs3-cs4 (there is a bug in the software). This is the work around I use, when creating any shape with the shape tool instead of clicking and dragging the shape to the size you need click on the art board and then enter your dimensions manually. Once you do this is it should be locked to the grid and you can re-size as you normally would and it will stay locked (as long as snap to grid is on in this whole process). Remember to set the grid and increment size according.

I will never understand why Adobe don't implement normal snapping in Illustrator ...this is one of the main reasons I can never prefer AI over Corel ...faster = less time = more money ...and I get shivers when I have to work with AI ...

I wish Corel would put ellipse gradient in their future versions as well as better extrude. Don't need much more to perfection.
