Blue for trustworthy/cool & orange for creativity/uniqueness - but happy to take your ideas.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We wondered about a more corporate 'Wigwag TV' name and more 'creative' accompanying logo - such as an illustration of a happy dog wagging its tail at a TV set which reflects the brand values, i.e. enthusiastic, loyal, trustworthy, excited, reliable, capable etc. Not too much like a cartoon (= too childish) and not too big so it detracts from the written message/idea below the corporate identity. Maybe white background so can be used on letterheads. But nothing too fixed - happy to see some ideas. I'll give feedback when/where I can but am UK based so have to sleep during our night-time! Thanks.

Hi #1, thanks for starting things off . The 'wigwag' is meant to refer to the wagging or 'wigwag' of a dog's tail - i.e. an illustration of a dog happy to be watching its favourite TV show, so probably we need an illustration of a dog watching a TV or sitting on the TV or in the TV screen or peeing against the TV etc - erm, maybe not peeing against the TV - not with electricity ;-)

The idea I have about the illustration of a dog looking excitedly at a TV set is similar to the HMV logo, where we see the dog listening into the horn of an old gramophone record player - but obviously, not too closely related. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Fab design #2. It made me smile and I think this is what we're trying to generate. I wonder if there's a way we can see, with the TV set, the smiling face of the dog, as well as the wagging tail? Maybe side/profile view? Thanks.

Great #3, this is stronger - more corporate, good use of white/blue, it says 'professional' and the dog/TV link works well. I wonder if there's a way to have a side or angled shot of the TV and dog, so we see more of the dog, rather than just it's back? Thanks.

Thanks, #4 and #5. The logo needs to incorporate 'Wigwag TV' rather than the word 'television' as the web address is www.wigwag.tv. The challenge is to create something that is corporate and professional on the one hand, yet allowing for a lighter touch with the dog/tv illustration, but one that's not too 'cartoony'. Thanks.

Thanks, #6 and #7. I wonder if there's a way to have the TV and dog from left to right, so we see the smiling/happy face of the dog? :-)

Thanks #8, really nice drawing of the Dalmatian, though this makes me think that the choice of dog might be relevant. Dalmatian's and Red Setters are sometimes known as a bit dumb, so maybe our brand is more 'terrier' or Jack Russell - excitable, we hang in there and don't give up, loyal, capable, we compete with the big boys/dogs (?!) etc. The idea of the happy dog looking at the TV screen/set is to convey the concept of 'enjoying a favourite TV programme' hence the wagging tail and the name of the company 'wigwag'. Our target audience, hopefully, will emulate this by enjoying our TV programme ideas.

Our business - just launching - is about developing ideas and formats for new TV programmes, from entertainment (reality shows, quiz shows, lifestyle formats) to factual (serious documentaries). So we're on the fun side of entertainment (the dog & TV logo) and the serious side of factual (hence the more corporate font for the name).

Hope this helps and thanks again!

Thanks #9, I like how you've integrated the 'TV' into the name. The animal looks more like a cat and when cats wag their tails it usually means they're pretty naffed off. Can you make the animal look more like a dog? Thanks.

Thanks #10 for the update and #8, meant to say, the Dalmatian image makes your design very classy - had good feedback about that one. Thanks.

This has been an interesting contest. I have played with making the dog face more visible but am concerned it begins to look like a channel for dogs. The other concern is he appears to be uninterested in the TV. Working on some perspective things but wanted to warn against the fine line between conveying your identity and the possibility of it not really fitting what you do. Great feedback on all the entries that will be a great benefit as the contest gets more and more entries. :)

Thanks silks411 - you make good and valid points. And maybe seeing the dog's face ain't that crucial afterall? Totally agree that we shouldn't lose sight of what we do as the company 'Wigwag TV' i.e. developing new formats for future television shows. The fun, exciting bit is getting a big hit on the screens (we're still waiting for this!) yet the reality is hundreds of hours of research, development, testing etc.

Hi and thanks for the recent designs. I think we have a good range of styles and concepts. #13 and #15 show a good integrated image. Dorsey, #12 better than #16 and #17 (as #16/#17 look like the dog is farting ... which in itself is an interesting concept!). I still like #3 the best as it's sleek, neat and sweet with a strong professional image. Maybe for new designs we could look at having a slightly smaller dog/tv illustration, so it becomes the complementary and illustrative part of the corporate identity rather than taking it over. Thanks all - great stuff coming through!

First response to external focus group. Thumbs up for #13 because it conveys most aspects of Wigwag TV well - colourful, easily identifyable brand, shows an entertainment focus though the lettering has sufficient corporate-ness. The dog's head is angled which conveys the 'listening' bit, which was well picked up. With a white background, this can transfer to more applications. But they wonder about whether the TV is too 'dated' and not contemporary enough

#8 is seen as 'classy' (accurate image and less cartoony) and the dog has a neatness, calmness (conveying 'trust') and focus (dog looking ahead) however, the TV screen is less clearly shown in the design which is less effective as the dog image overrides the TV link. But they wonder about a making the TV screen more prominent.

#3 down to third place (at the moment) because the small size (and colour contrast) of the TV/dog image might not replicate well on the credits of a TV programme.

But these and others are all very strong and effective designs. Hope this helps and more feedback shortly!

Thanks.

We've got some strong contenders here - thanks everyone! With just a few days to go, here's your chance to either make a few variations - or try something different, something that perhaps we haven't thought of that might 'wow' us. By now you will have a sense what we do in our organisation, the corporate identify we're seeking plus who we're targeting. Do ask any questions if you want more info. Well done everyone!

Thanks everyone - #20, I wonder if it's possible to have a white background rather than blue as we'd need to use the design on letterheads/proposal documents so may need a white background. #24, the 'sunburst' seems too oriental to me and I wonder about some alternative, something that says something about who we are and what we do, some sense of creativity, ideas? #23 it's not clear the box is a TV, though it's an interesting dog illustration. #26, an innovative idea with the dog/tv, though to me it looks like the dog has eaten the TV and #27, the colours are too feminine and needfs to work on a white background, as per comments above. #28, the dog is side profiled so doesn't quite seem like it's watching the TV screen, maybe we could have this sitting down (looking attentive and interested), looking at the TV screen and wagging its tail.

We've 3 days to go and I appreciate this is holiday season. At the time of writing we have some 24 ranked designs out of 28 submitted. I'm hoping to get a good 50+ designs to give us a good range to select from and we may request from the Moderator a time extension for this contest to facilitate this, so I hope you understand if we extend the contest a wee bit, but I'll keep you posted.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for your updates #29 and #30. #30 splits up the company name into two parts which I think confuses. I like #29 with the larger name and smaller image. I wonder if you could increase the size of the image (dog/tv) but smaller than #13? Thanks :-)

Hi everyone ... the clock's ticking - any final designs, remember we need something that's professional corporate and trust-worthy, so please keep away from anything too cartoony. Think of us pitching to the 'Dragon's Den'!

Tyler's given me a short extension due the the Christmas slow-down. But I'm keeping a keen eye on everything that comes through and have worked our how to send private messages so can give you individual feedback.

Thanks.

We're favouring designs with dogs that are less cartoony and more life-like but not where we might look like a TV Channel for dogs. The HMV logo is the sort of thing we like because the dog is curious about the record player/music - similarly we like the notion of a dog interested and excited about a TV show that we have presumably developed. But obviously we can't be too close to the HMV logo.

The current top 8 excellent designs could go either way - so over to you.

Many thanks for all your designs and best wishes for a Happy New Year whenever it arrives for you!

Cheers!

Thanks to recent submissions. #64 - good because the design is not too cartoony. #62, #58 and #57, this is a clever design and a great idea but the idea is to have the dog excited by what they see on the TV and the name is a bit lost in the shades. #60, er ... the wrong end of the dog is looking at the TV and #54, nice design but the blood-hound or Basset hound presents the wrong image for us. We're more 'terrier' in image. #56 and #55 this is a clean image but the perspective is slightly wrong - it looks like not looking directly at the TV screen.

There are some great designs coming through but we're still wanting to stick to the original brief - 'Wigwag TV' in corporate font and an illustration of a dog (not too like a cartoon) excited by what they see on TV.

Thanks all.

Thanks a million everyone! There are some excellent designs here and I've really appreciated the time and effort you've all put into this contest. Now comes the huge headache of trying to choose just one!

Please bear with me and I'll announce the winner and final rankings as soon as I've consulted the great and the good.

Well done Dorsey Design for the winning entry - who was chosen as we felt this best responded to the brief.

But it was a really tough decision and thank you to everyone who submitted a design. It would have been great to split the funds across a few of you to recognise your efforts - but nothing to take away from Dorsey's design.

Until the next time!

Very best wishes and thanks again!
