Thanks HarvestDesign! I put your logos in the 'non interested' category because I didn't get the feeling that any had the potential to be the basis of a big brand. Specifically:

#2 & #3: These logos are too simple, or appear only one step up from something that could be created in MS Word.

#4: I think there may be some potential with the m and w, but this looks like the logo of an architecture or law firm. I don't get any feeling that the company is innovative.

I'd like to know what you think the words "subtle" and "wordmark" mean—for future reference.

Hi Harvest, subtle is probably the hardest kind of logo to do. To me, subtle does not mean timid, a logo can be very strong in making an impression on someone, but it can do it without being heavy-handed. In fact, logos logos that make a subltle reference to the essence of the company are the most poweful.

Given our statement about taking the web apart and putting it back together, a not-so-subtle approach would be to put the 'web' part in the form of puzzle pieces. There are likely far more powerful and subtle ways of conveying that--but we have not come up with one. But I'm sure you guys will.

Designers, it would be interesting to see if some of you want to experiment with the idea of playing with the 'web' part of the logo to show how we take the web apart and put it back together.

I think there's probably a really cool way to get the m and w to interact with each other as some of you have done, but the only issue I have with that is that it merely looks cool and has nothing to do with the company, at least in the current examples. Playing with the 'web' part does have meaning.

I hate to give guidance like this beacause someone out there may have a ton of conviction about a totally different idea. If that's the case, by all means run with that conviction and ignore anything said here.

Thanks EastCoast! Please do it quickly. We'd love to see your idea and it looks like the contest ends at 4:30pm PST (in ~30 minutes).
