First, thank everyone for their excellent work. Selecting a winner will be difficult (but, of course, we shall).

Here are some thoughts to help you all do your work even better.

We all like Example #2, the one we rank first, because it is clean and simple. However, the green color does not excite us and the typeface is just O.K. This logo will often appear on print materials in black and white and we wonder how this rendition would hold together in B&W? Also wonder how this design might look if the "News-Talk Radio" were centered under it a la Example #2??

Example #1, which we rank second, is a more traditional approach and very good . . . however the mikes used (as is the mike in Example #3) are old fashioned public address type mikes, not the sort of thing used today in broadcasting. Again, B&W rendition?

Example #5, our ranking is third on this one, looks like a dated, almost retro, design and that's not exactly what we're shooting for. If we're going to use more than one color can it be something bright that has some "pop" to it? The principal color, a Reflex Blue, is fine. As in the first two, how would this reproduce in B&W?

Example #3, which is our fourth ranked design, is attractive, but the over first impression of it just doesn't say a lot, certainly not that we're a radio station.

Example #4, which we rank fifth, is creative and we applaud that . . . but the design is just a little too abstract for someone to quickly grasp on a billboard, TV commercial, etc. "News-Talk" is a phrase that's used together . . . "Radio" would be a seperate element . . . in this design they're given equal weight.

Finally, Example #6, which is rank in last place at sixth and in the "not interested" box, uses a line drawing of a fox. It is innovative, but we don't have a mascot and that's not our identification. Equally important is the fact that Fox Valley Broadcasting is used as the primary identifier. Fox Valley is the corporation which owns WRMN AM1410 -- but it's not something we promote.

Example #7 just popped up . . . we haven't ranked it yet. However, the typeface used is not very corporate or "new-talk" looking.

Example #8, while ranked high, is too dark for our panel's taste. We'd rather see something open, airy light, bright.

Thanks once again to everyone for the revisions, the new entries and the hard work. What a lot of energy and creativity is out there in the world!!

Some comments from our panel which we hope will be helpful:

Entry #19 has a much better font than before. Still unsure about bubbles . . . what do they do, connote? What if News-Talk Radio were somewhat larger across bottom?

Entry # 9 is a good concept and much better mike . . . what happened if the design received a little more "air" - if there was a bit more space between the fonts and the keyline and if the keyline were just a little thinner.

# 13 & 14 These are attractive and would rank higher except that the mike isn't oriented in a real world attitude. In ouir studios mikes never point straight down. I'd rather use a strong design without a mike graphic if it's not spot on. These designs both ARE cool. They have more or a corporate feel to them--and I like that a lot. All of us feel in the call letters, WRMN, the kerning might be a little tighter.

#12 Attractive on some levels, but it got a lot harder to read. And it was difficult to comprehend from the beginning.

Sure hope this feedback is helpful. There is some excellent work being done here!!

Incredible work and energy. Thank you all. I'm trying to absorb the new entries and will soon post another comment that addresses specifics about the ones we are really interested in and suggestions as to what it would take to move them further up in the stack.

The fact is that in many cases all it would take is a simple change . . . either in color or movement of elements to make an entry a top if not the top contender. Note: Entry #72 and others by the same designer have our call letters wrong. The call letters of the radio station are: WRMN. Thank you all. More later!!

Our team is absolutely blown away by the incredible work that has been done. I wish we could name multiple winners . . . the work is that outstanding.

Please understand that what you see as far as ranking goes, right now, is a rough sort. We have a team of radio (as opposed to computer) programmers, sales and marketing people, front office and engineering folks who will be helping to vote on the final winner. The ranking will continue and no doubt change as the process plays out.

We look forward to announcing a winner and then . . . why we've got some more logo work to be done.
