Contest Brief
Company Name:
Mixology
Slogan:
Drink Recipes
What We Do:
Mixology is an app for finding & creating drink/cocktail recipes. Please take a look at our iPhone app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mixology-drink-recipes-free/id320926534?mt=8
Our Industry:
Entertainment
Formats Accepted
.EPS only
Top Three Things to Communicate through our Logo:
#1 - We're the ultimate drink recipe resource
#2 - We're classy, passionate connoisseurs of cocktails
#3 - You'll learn about bartending & mixing cocktails
Our Target Audience:
Our audience consists of people who enjoy making & drinking cocktails. They're mostly between 21 and 40 years old, from all over the world, but the majority lives in the USA. About 60% is male, and 40% is female.
Styles that we are interested in:
Wordmark

A wordmark consists of the company name in a stylized type and may include small abstract or pictorial elements. Famous examples include:

Pictorial Mark

A pictorial mark uses literal or representative imagery to symbolize the brand. Famous examples include:

Web 2.0

Although there is no official description of "Web 2.0" logos, some common elements can include: vibrant colors, subtle 3d feel, bold type, color transitions, and shadows. Famous examples include:

Please note that the above brands are in no way, shape, or form associated with LogoTournament. They are cited as examples under Fair Use for the enrichment of the general public's knowledge of the graphic arts.

Color Preferences:
We'd like to avoid overly bright colors. This logo will typically show up on a black background, but we'd like the option to modify the logo in Illustrator when printing on a white letterhead.
Our Ideas and Additional Information:
First line: "Mixology"
Second line: "Drink Recipes" (smaller font)

We could try putting an icon to the left of the text, or we could try making the entire logo look as if it were the label from a liquor bottle...or you could come up with something completely different/better. For example, you might want to convey ideas of liquid, alcohol, mixing, bartending, or glassware.

NOTE: We definitely do NOT want to use the over-played martini glass icon.

Thanks!

Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest as it progresses:

~~ You, the Client, are very important! Your active participation is the single greatest factor influencing this contest. Active participation by you, the Client, helps you get the logo design you want!
~~ What's active participation? It's updating the brief with more information for Designers to work with as the contest progresses, providing feedback to Designers on their entries when they're submitted, and ranking designs at least once a day.
~~ When you provide feedback to Designers, you increase the chances of getting the logo you want. More feedback = better results!
~~ Leave private feedback by clicking on a design. Feedback will be made public upon contest completion.
~~ Rank designs at least once each day -- this will encourage Designers to submit more entries!
~~ Ranking prevents your contest from going idle! Active contests attract more Designers.
~~ Ranking gets your contest noticed. Unless your contest is Private, 1st place entries are posted to the portfolio page: http://logotournament.com/portfolio
~~ Please note: if you're asking for a design that will require several hours to create, to attract Designers willing to invest that amount of time the prize should be at least $400-$500. All "Character" style logos fall into this category.
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested." We'd like to know what you don't want so we can give you the design you do want.
~~ The first phase of the contest is the "Open" phase, and everyone can submit during that time.
~~ After your contest's initial "Open" phase closes, it will enter the "Top 5" phase; only the top 5 ranked Designers will be able to submit revisions at that time.
~~ The "Top 5" Designers are the first 5 Designers in a contest, not the first 5 designs.
~~ When "Top 5" ends, the "Judging" phase begins. The Designer of the 1st place design will be the only Designer who can submit revisions at that time.

More detailed information on how to get the most out of your contest can be found here:

Please be sure to look at our iPhone app and all of its screenshots before creating new logos:

Better yet, install the app and play with it :)

Thanks,

Please keep icon/image aspects either to the left of the text or built into the text so that this logo may fit into the navigation bar of an iPhone app. Entries #28, #19, and #41 are good examples of this.

Logos that have the icon/image aspect above the text probably wouldn't fit well into this tight, rectangular area of the app.

Thanks

I should have mentioned that the paid version if our app is Mixologist, rather than Mixology, so please avoid modifying the ending of the word, particularly the letter Y.

We'd also like the new logo to somehow have the ability to be converted into a square iPhone app icon easily, if possible.

Could someone please expand on entry #20? I like the liquor bottle for the "i", but not the rainbow colors. I'd like to see a swirl of colors (maybe blue, green, and grey) in place of the rainbow ribbons...to represent the mixing of ingredients.

Also, please use a different font and do away with the rainbow colored text.

EDIT:

Some of you are worried about the code of conduct being violated here. However, illusion is in a probationary period and wasn't able to submit new entries over the weekend without being approved by LT, and our contest ended Sunday, which was a huge deal breaker for us. However, I did extend the contest another day for his sake, and I also increased the prize.

Furthermore, your code of conduct says that obvious asset concepts are fair game:

"Concepts that are considered obvious will also be fair game, for example: a dog & cat for a pet hospital, shopping bag for an e-commerce company, a tooth for a dentist, initials for a lawyer, etc. "

Thanks,
Matt

Unfortunate only the designer who submitted the customized letter "i" as bottle is permitted to develop this further, though you probably not a where of this it's in our code of conduct.

Imagine the logo being at the top of this screenshot, replacing the word Mixology:

http://mixologyapp.com/img/screenshots/lo/home.png

The dimensions of that navigation bar: 320pt x 44pt

Of course, I'll remove the second line of text ("Drink Recipes") when used on the iPhone...and keep it on the web, in print, etc.

For those of you using bottles, please try to make the bottle look more like a liquor bottle:

Some of the bottles I've seen look more like wine or champagne bottles.

Thanks,
Matt

I think "I' as the bottle concept belongs to illusion.

Yes, I feel bad regarding illusion's right to the bottle as the "i". However, he's in a probationary period with LT and couldn't submit designs over the weekend. My contest was ending on Sunday, but then I extended it one more day.

Also, isn't a booze bottle a pretty obvious concept for a cocktail recipe app logo?
