Slogan
Making Success the Rule, rather than the Exception, in the Innovation Cycle
What We Do
The Innovation Management Institute organizes workshops and events where managers learn proven methods to improve innovation efficiency and rates of success.
Industry
Events
Color Preferences
Blue, but not as the only color.
Orange might also be nice.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
The word "Innovation" might be distinguished visually (color, kerning, font, placement, etc.) from "Management Institute."

The logo should be easily recognizable and easy to read, even when it is rather small (i.e. on business cards or 3rd party sites). High color contrast is good, as some 3rd parties may render the logo in black & white.

Clarification: We don't want the slogan in the logo. We just included that to give a taste of organizational focus. The logo should only contain the words "Innovation Management Institute."

Saturninus, thanks for the great designs! In #3, the color, font, and size contrast between "Innovation" and "Management Institute" are great! The treatment of the dot on the second "i" also adds a lot, but the gradient reduces the color contrast and will hurt readability at smaller sizes and in black &white, don't you think?

General Feedback:

Thanks for the great entries!

Here are a few general remarks that may be helpful. I know that the ranking has to be in absolute terms, but there are a lot of elements of specific logos that are really strong. For instance, #43 is fantastic in terms of readability at small sizes.

Since readability at small sizes is a big issue for us, we're wondering why there haven't been any entries with all three words on separate lines. We definitely want "Innovation" to be distinguished from "Management Institute," but the words "Management" and "Institute" do not need to appear side-by-side.

Maybe just coincidence, I think i see an entry too close with this:
http://www.logosauce.com/logos/26005,
incorporate i & m letters.

@ibot, I think it is fine. It is a common logo element.

More ranking detail:

If we could, we would separately rank the wordmark and abstract mark portions of the logo.
We feel that additional ranking detail will give a better idea of the elements that best capture the desired image and visual brand characteristics of the Innovation Management Institute.

Abstract mark:
Client rank 1st: Tie between #163 & #91
Client rank 2nd: Tie between #141 & #59

Typeface:
Client rank 1st: Entry #6 - Notes: We think this angular, clean, modern, simple typeface with all-capital letters is great. We don't like the treatment of the "A" as an inverted "V" in a long word like "Innovation."

Text alignment and organization:
Client rank 1st: #59 - Notes: Looking at this many entries, we really like the way the Wordmark looks with the words broken out of 3 lines and left aligned (without between fully justified)

Text treatment:
Client rank 1st: #163 - We think the distinction between "Innovation" and "Management Institute" based on color looks great.

Text - Definite room for improvement:
We have not yet seen a wordmark that we are completely satisfied with. Designer kn made a great point about both of the words "Innovation" and "Management" being more important than "Institute" (and this is reflected in #59). It is fine if "Institute" is distinguished from "Management" in some way (in this case by size). However, it is important to us that "Innovation" really pops. If you will, "Innovation" is the innovative and dynamic word, and "Management" and "Institute" are the solid and disciplined words.

We hope that these comments give a much better idea of what we like in the entries that we've ranked highest. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks for all of the fabulous and creative entries!

Happy New Year!

The way people are duplicating Carrion's layout and font selection is boring. The same thing over and over again..

@hendraku: I like your entry #232, perhaps could you tell us what inspired you or what is it? It is very interesting. Anyway, congrats to the winner (whoever will be). The top 10 are pretty strong.

Are you serious? Just because you make a "claim" that you never seen it makes it okay to sell someone else's work? The fact is that IT EXISTS, IT HAS BEEN DONE, AND YOU DID NOT DO IT FIRST!!!

You should take your profession more seriously... or you might end up with a lawsuit. If I had people trying to sell my shit online 1 month after I posted it up within my portfolio you better believe you'd be getting a cease and desist order from my lawyer...

Carrion,
Mogeek is right and has a point on these.
This logo has been done for years and a couple of companies are using this trend - crowded / UNILEVER like - see FORTIS for example. Unfortunately, the same image as the winning one here can be found on shutterstock.com or istockphoto.com and you are too pushy on this. I can show you several contests in the past i have been involved arround the WWW and all used the same image - dotted sphere - but that means another effort from me and this is not worthy.

Hidding behind the "Never seen it before" courtain does not absolve you from a serious copyright infringement and we all should take our work more serious. Furthermore If anyone is using this as an excuse then i would say: "Start to think of something else!"
We are designers, and since i have seen it before, mogeek seen it before, x seen it before, Y seen it before...then you should take it into consideration if you don't want to become a slave of the money and rather want to get better and better each day. Besides, i don't believe that you never saw that idea, unless you are in this business less than one year.

Unfortunately, the Competition Holder embraced this idea from the begining and could not give a step back from it.

As a comment / feedback from a very experienced graphic designer i would say:
-Type treatment is nice but not a brilliant font choice
-Nonetheless the typework is too thin compared to the symbol used
-Symbol looks too much like beer bubbles - like when you are looking above a glass full of beer
-Resembles too much the Ishihara test Plate - for those that does not have any knoledges of WIkipedia is a great source to find some answers
-The symbol is a bit too molecular which leads me to the biological development feeling rather than innovation management
-The colors between symbol and typework are not tied together

These are enough points- aside of the ones mentioned above - to consider another idea.
I think some research and a better colaboration between CH and designers would lead us all to a great result.

I feel Emi on many of those points... Sure it uses common shapes but I have to be very honest here...

Carrion: I've seen your work, Its nothing groundbreaking... You (especially now) strike me as the type of dude who NEEDS to give a look around faveup/logopond to get a little inspiration...

This guy posts his logo up for ATOMICA TECHNOLOGIES... which touches on what Emi was talking about (molecular, very fitting and nice mark for this company)... THIS IS ON NOVEMBER 28TH, 2008... ONE MONTH AGO... so of course the website, full branding hasn't left the ground yet...

Its okay though, I believe in the end the designer and all parties involved will learn to take things to heart when they get called out on something... The original designer and more importantly Atomica Technologies will be contacting them...

WOW... I just saw someone selling the famouse "Particle" logo from logo pond. Sorry I didnt brows to read all the comments... but this is exact Particle :). I think the designer can hide behind nicks or countries...but the buyer will be at risk because of some unethical selling.
