Our Ideas & Additional Information
seeing as how the fat bastard burrito name is already raw and racey i'd like to change the characature in the logo. i'd like to see a characature of a little donkey (burrito) from its backside. i'd like the donkey to be looking over its large rump with a smirk on its face holding a big burrito in one of it's front hooves. please incorporate the traditional satchels that hang over the donkey's sides in your interpretations. i would like the donkey's rump to be large as well as the burrito it's holding. please note: the jack astor's logo incorporates a similar characature so please be mindful of this when creating your designs. a wordmark would also work. target audience is a younger working class type that would stop for lunch or come in at 3am after the club for a drunken feast. the name fat bastard is a little raw in itself, but at the same time i don't want to chase away families.

Honestly what you are looking for as your logo is the worse stereotype ever... Completely dissing Mexican culture and society.

As a Canadian this CH is not reflective of Canadians at large why this CH resorted to defaming a County and race is beyond me.

In the CH's defence the name "Fat Bastard", I think, refers to the customer not the Mexican people. I tried to make a character that didn't look like a stereotypical mustachioed Mexican from a clichéd Western movie. But reading the comments of the huntress and Cit M., and seeing that this contest is causing offence to Mexican people, I have withdrawn my entries.

To me "Fat Bastard" is obviously a play on words in a sense...CH seems to want to drive the idea of lots of food to be served/consumed. As far as a Mexican character is concerned I do believe that if one googles "mexican food/restaurants" burritos come up there...perhaps the association comes here...and maybe the CH wants the Mexican character to be fat becaus fat is in the company name. I honestly don't think a CH would blatantly be trying to insult a culture in a public forum such as this. How do we know the CH isn't Mexican? As far as individuals coming to the defense of all Canadians...I really don't think anyone made any reference to Canadians feeling what is being speculated against the CH in this contest. Accusing someone of defaming a culture and country is a harsh accusation. When we feel someone is doing something wrong the best approach is to ask them and give them a chance to defend themselves...this doesn't seem to be the case here. Two wrongs don't make a right folks.

I think young people will go for this name.. fat bastard, reminds me of Austin Powers! LOL.
I don't think people will associate the shop with Mexico really. I doubt the drunk youth coming home from the clubs will not eat there on moral obligations!

Scave, A Donkey doesn´t connect with the Name or the Food? Did you do your homework? haha

Logo Designer
But you´re saying a DONKEY doesn´t connect to Burrito? Donkey IS burrito in spanish!

"The Spanish brought donkeys, called "burros" in Spanish, to North America" it's a variation of the word. Hope there's no donkeys in the burritos tho... lol

Generally, an "ito" added to a word normally means a smaller version of what the word initially means, thus the variation in burro and burrito, another example could be chico and chiquito.

Just though I'd let you know, also correct me if im wrong, my gf speaks the language, I dont, lol. :)

Burrito means "Little Donkey" in spanish

Logo Designer
Yes VR, you´re right :) - You can add ITO or ITA depending on the word. Called "diminutivo" and changes the meaning of a word to a smaller thing.

Wow, a lot of comments resulted out of my initial one,

Thanks Jimmy for changing the description as far as the character. It means a lot, I have lived in different countries and have suffered discrimination for a variety of things, so once again thank you.

I left the country when I posted the comment just to come back a day ago and find my city in the middle of a Swine Flue crisis. I feel like I walked into something from Umbrella Corp. in Resident Evil... haha

to CH: no effence but (as a client speaking) when i go somewhere to eat the last thing i want to see is a donkey's ass. :)
I don't see ''trendy'' and ''value'' in that concept (a little donkey from its backside eating burrito).

Hey This offence business is getting out of hand, the fat bastard connotation was all fun and tongue in cheek. This is not the first time I have seen this name used in relationship to a a eating establishment. I have designed a logo for three chefs here in South Africa who called themselves three fat bastards, it went down well and nobody saw any insult. I agree I would not like to eat out from a place that uses a donkeys ass as a symbol I Think the original brief was better and I in know way thought anything the worse of Mexicans. Stereotyping is also not a bad thing. Think Italian and you get red and green and pizza. I mean the Chinese laugh at what we call Chinese restaurants what they serve in the west is nothing like what is truly served in the east so a Mexican restaurant in Canada is going to have to come from a Canadian perspective, How do the rest of the world perceive them, and this is a positive thing, Mr Grilled you must think about what is best for your business and not be over influenced by a hypersensitive Mexican designer. No offence was ever intended, and I certainly never saw any offence. Mexican food as the WORLD knows it, is brilliant, the Mexican people are great and I would love to add Mexico to one of the worlds destinations I would love to visit, lets all calm down.

Go with your gut feel with what is best for your business, every nation has stereotypes at which we can laugh WITH not AT my country is no exception, and we should rather see them as marketable assets we need to be able to laugh at ourselves and have a bit more fun in life, goodness knows there are enough sad things on our planet, build a bridge and get over it.

@Brendan- "and I would love to add Mexico to one of the worlds destinations I would love to visit"
LOL I wouldn't be visiting there any time soon, don't you watch the news? If flights are cheap you know why... Starts with 'S' ends in 'Wine'! ;o) (Jokes). Sorry, no offense intended, just watching the news with all the airport people in face masks then read your comment about visiting there. hehe
