Color Preferences
Current logo which has been in use for 13 years is red, black & white. Thinking we should stick with those - but if something really great with other colors came up we would be willing to change.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Current web site can be seen at www.absolutionsinc.com - not that we really like any of the graphic elements to be seen out there, but it shows what we've been using as well as what the company is about.

I think it is hard to put the A & B together in any way that is primarily comprised of the text letters without it coming off reminding people of "American Bandstand".

While not essential, I do like having the AB somehow incorporated into the primary part of the logo on either the left or the top, but I'm not certain that it should closely resemble regular text. This is especially true if the "AB" is going to be displayed in readable text right next to it.

The submissions so far have led me to believe that less emphasis on the text elements and more on some sort of graphic symbol would be good.

Of course, the strong positive reaction to entry #21 might prove me wrong on that, but #21 was definetly the exception. All of the other well received submissions so far had more to do with the stronger graphical display in the logo while those that are more text based are getting a thumbs down.

Thank you to everyone who is submitting at such an early stage. I imagine it is very frustrating to work with us clients at this stage since we don't really know what it is that we want yet; so you're willingness to participate is very much appreciated.

Yes, the hard part here is to not emulate the "American Bandstand" logo or the "Safe Auto" logo (#79).

So far I like #46 #45 and #44 because they are unique ways of putting together "AB". #67 has a pleasing balance and while #69 feels "sturdy" and "strong"

I think I really like #86. Its very describable in words "an a and b merged together to form a stylized infinity sign"
Its also very memorable in my mind, a good quality to have in a logo. It’s still effective without color and i can see it in gray tones or B&W. It’s scalable and would work when just an inch in size. Not sure if its appropriate for what your AB Solution does, but it feels "long lasting" I'm guessing its because of the infinity symbol. You can also adjust the symbol to the right or left of the company name to fit wide/narrow documents.

I'm also drawn to #69, i think mainly because "solutions" is highlighted in red and brings association to the logo itself by color. I don't know if i could describe it in words as eloquently as in #86. It is memorable to me i think because of the 3D block effect and the inverse lettering. It looks fairly scalable, and would work sans color in printing. I still get that solid and stable feeling when i look at it.

Had to take yesterday off from notes and updating. And I read a recommended set of comments related to scoring and ranking and providing feedback to the designers, which may influence my notes for these last couple of days a bit.

I have several people with an interest in the logo looking at the contest and providing me with feedback from remote locations. So in the interest of organization, I'm going to go through and rather ruthlessly move submissions into the not interested area. However, I think there is something with the ranking where each designer gets a point for each ranked submission. I'm not clear on if they get those points for the ones that I move into the not interested area, so just to be safe I'm going to pull them all out of not interested and put them into the ranked column before the contest ends (unless someone clarifies this for me and tells me that doing so is not necessary).

Even the ones that we are not interested in now have done a lot to shape this process, so please accept my thanks for all of your efforts even if I do end up moving all of your entries into the not interested column for right now.

hi justodd - thank you for your interest on ranking designers. Designers will appreciate. The not interested will get no points, but you can rank them just before you chose a winner. Some good informations you will find also on this thread :

CH, no offense, but for $350.00 you are asking a bit too much. I just spent an hour or two of my time designing these according to specs and they are thrown away like that. This is why designers get very frustrated.

Drew: I'm sorry I didn't like your entries, but I've taken the time to comment on every entry made - including all 3 of yours. I don't just "throw them away" without taking the time to provide some feedback. I'm not sure what what more I can do to try to be as considerate to the designers as possible. As a CH, it is very difficult to keep trying to find some new and positive way to say "I don't like what you did there".

If I were in your shoes, I'm very certain that I would be frustrated as well. I'm both shocked, but very pleased, with the quality of the submissions you desingers are putting out here for just $350. There must be some mechanic at work beyond the money that I don't understand.

Fair enough. My apologies.

I'm not certain what the mechanics are for when the contest ends, I understand that I have a few days to make a final selection (which is good - I need it!), but I'm not sure if I'll have a chance to bring the un-ranked entries back over after the end of the contest. So to be safe I'm starting the process of moving every entry over from the "not interested" area to be ranked.

I'm leaving #40 & 41 which the moderators removed in place as a visual separator for me to know the ones on my "short list". If your entry is below those numbers, please know that the ranking assigned has no bearing on an actual "place" or liking of your entry. There are too many of them to take the time to really rank anything beyond the top 20.

My thanks to all of you designers. You all did some really amazing work here for us, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your efforts. I don't understand why you all would be willing to do this just for the slim chance of being selected as the 'winner' in a contest based on something as arbitrary as a CH's tastes. Luckily, I don't need to understand it to benefit from it. :)
